Pigeon languages our cities. When a speckled grey pigeon is trapped by artists and spray-painted in a miniature car wash, and released as an ultramarine green pigeon streaking through a public space, what happens to the "flying rat"? How do we really know we have seen what we think we have seen? How is our perception always trapped and released? "Some pigeons are more equal than others" began as an artwork by Julius von Bismarck and Julian Charrière and is now a book which treats the on-going art work as a place of contact with poets, philosophers, historians, architects, and other species. This book examines our relationship to the world and history in a non-human-centered way; an urban manifesto evolving ideas on the role of public domains and the encounter with contemporary art today. With contributions by Ben Marcus, CA Conrad, Craig Dworkin, Lyn Hejinian, Marjorie Welish, Juliana Spahr, Ian Bogost, David Graham Burnett, Claudia Roden, Olafur Eliasson, and others.

Summary:
The subject of light and lighting is more relevant than ever, as evidenced by the UNESCO global celebration of 2015 as the International Year of Light. The exhibition Nightscape 2050 by Lighting Planners Associates (LPA) explores the interactions between people, light, and cities in the year 2050. For LPA the word “nightscape” does not only refer to the evening view, but also includes the individual: “nightscape = humans and cities at night.” The emergence of new light sources such as LEDs, OLEDs, and lasers as well as the evolution of lighting-control technology in the 21st century may dramatically change our living environment. At the same time, numerous natural disasters, manmade disasters, and environmental changes have forced a discussion on how to approach energy consumption including how to power lighting.

The Romanian-born Canadian artist is well known for his richly-coloured, large-scale landscape paintings but less so for his photography. This publication fills that gap by featuring a selection of never before seen photographic work spanning four decades. Much like his paintings, autobiography is at the core of Krausz’s photographs in that they document the journeys of a relentless traveler. Both his photographs and paintings project entrancing worlds where the narrative of embattled and embittered histories are implied but never named.
