Colour Based on Nature takes the concept of Irma Boom’s previous work further afield, highlighting UNESCO World Heritage sites across the globe and on every continent. This time, the colour diagrams are derived from 80 natural locations designated by the UNESCO list. It is an exercise in describing without words, using instead colours to evoke and celebrate the essence of a place. Detailed information about the World Heritage properties, their selection criteria, how many are inscribed per nation and in what regions such sites are most endangered makes this an important tribute to the reasons such places exist.

Summary:
The architectural production in Flanders increasingly draws international attention. This is the result of the valuable work accomplished by several Flemish initiatives that has had effects on the rise of a vibrant design and research culture in architecture. In Radical Commonplaces, architects, critics and experts from both Flanders and Europe reflect upon the development of new concepts for living in one of Europe's most densely populated areas, redevelopment projects and infrastructures, and the great cultural ambitions found in a number of public and private buildings in Flanders and elsewhere. With texts by Guy Chtel, Aglaée Degros, Stefan Devoldere, Christoph Grafe, Christian Kieckens, Axel Sowa and Ellis Woodman, among others.

The description of a city must be as diverse as the people in it, a multiplicity of definitions, networks, landscapes, cultures, histories, policies. From the perspective of the designer, what is Amsterdam? How can culture and design participate in a debate about the city? This issue of Graphic is a subjective tour guide to Amsterdam. From foreign designers working there to research into the 1960s Provo movement, and from the aspirations of young designers in today’s economic reality to a map of designer locations in Amsterdam, the guide is detailed, personal and comprehensive. Contributors include Experimental Jetset, Mediamatic, Henrik van Leeuwen and many others.
