Summary:
Cities have contributed for centuries to the promotion of some of humanity’s greatest ideas, we must now urgently include them as among the principal players in the environmental debate and at the forefront of any policy tackling and countering – possibly reversing - climate change. Nevertheless, even today one of the most significant technologies capable of absorbing CO2 and restoring our environment is photosynthesis. Planting trees, in addition to protecting existing natural areas and biodiversity, together with de-carbonization, renewable energies, digitalization, smart mobility and the circular economy could be the set of strategies necessary to tackle climate change. Today the effects of the Anthropocene age are ever more visible, changing our environment and affecting every species that lives within it. ''Green obsession'' offers a path to be taken, a hard but still necessary paradigm shift – even for architecture and urbanism – that aims to give a voice to this much needed ecological transition. This book aims to unveil the processes and the complexity involved in the search for a new kind of urbanism, while raising questions and opening old wounds related to the relationship between the human species and Nature and finally putting these fragments together to create a portrait of our era. We need to conceive cities as new green catalysts. Now more than ever, it is essential to act together as separate individuals and professionals, joining the cause as members of the global community with a shared environmental strategy. We all have to open the era of a new alliance between Nature and City.

Summary:
Born in 1934 in Naples--where he still lives and works--Mimmo Jodice has been at the top of his profession, one of the great Italian masters of photography, for more than 45 years. This volume celebrates Jodice's architectural work, uniting his portraits of eight world capitals into a kind of self-portrait. Four of the cities have been the subjects of previous titles: Paris: City of Light; Inlands: A Vision of Boston; São Paulo and La città invisibile: Nuove vedute di Napoli; and four are new to print, including Rome, Moscow, Tokyo and New York. When Jodice's Medeterranean appeared, which includes some Rome images, the architecture critic Herbert Muschamp observed of it in the New York Times that "Mr. Jodice depicts a mythical place, a romantic intertwining of wholeness and solitude: the oceanic sensation of merger between a self and its surroundings." That impression of unity is as strong--if not as relaxing--in his contemporary urban landscapes as in his ancient ones. With text from Stefano Boeri of Domus magazine and an interview with Hans Ulrich Obrist. Jodice's previous books, in addition to those above, include Light, Eden and Tempo Interiore.

Summary:
Biomilano is a glossary of ideas - a mosaic of pieces put together by combining different ways of investigating and using the city, involving biologists, architects, agronomists, politicians and residents. Ideas, thoughts and urban lifestyle habits initially listed verbally and visually are then put together again differently to form six metropolitan frescoes. In each of which the fragments are regrouped to create a concrete vision of the city’s present and its future. It is only when you take a step back, raise your eyes and continue reading that the overall view becomes clearer and more recognizable: it is the plan of a city that potentially already exists. The book contains detailed illustrations of the six Biomilano projects – the Orto Botanico Planetario for Expo 2015, Metrobosco, Bosco Verticale , Casa Bosco, Cascine, Ruralità Urbane – using a glossary to describe the economic and territorial energies required to achieve a new balance between the urban sphere, rural areas (cultivated forms of nature) and the natural world.
