Summary:
Colorful and humorous, and utilizing simple forms such as cones, cylinders and cubes, Rossi's graphic output extends his vision of the city as a unified entity composed of consistent rather than unconnected structures. Rossi's architectural vocabulary synthesized medieval and Renaissance precedents (most famously in his floating theatre created for the 1979 Venice Biennale) in a manner that led him to be tagged a postmodernist in the 80s, especially in the US where he taught for many years at Yale and Cornell, and erected buildings in Pennsylvania, Florida and Texas. As the work of Rossi and his generation receives renewed critical attention, this volume celebrates one of the postwar era's leading architectural imaginations.

Summary:
The House of Switzerland is a mobile building that serves as the official visitors’ center for Switzerland at major international events. Following its debut at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, the building went on to serve events in Zurich, Milan, and Rio de Janeiro. This book takes a close look at the architectural and design challenges presented by a building that has to be mobile, accessible, and visually striking. Drawing on materials from the planning process conducted by Switzerland’s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the architectural firm Spillmann Echsle Architects, which built the house together with Ortreport scenographers, the book presents a dictionary of all elements in the building set for the house, illustrated with images and plans rendered with rich technical detail. A discussion between the key figures involved in the project rounds out the book, exploring the process of creating such an iconic representation of a nation abroad.

Summary:
Faced with questions about how to adapt and reuse a former industrial site in the center of town, an international insurance corporation, together with the Swiss city of Winterthur, held a competition among architecture and design firms to come up with an innovative, effective plan. The winning firm was the Vienna-based Architekt Krischanitz, and their submission, Superblock, is a striking idea given a brilliant execution: it combines a large workshop where diesel engines were assembled with newly constructed yet visually complementary buildings. This book details the project from concept to completion, using numerous photographs, plans, and visualizations to trace the history of the site, the genesis and development of the Superblock concept, and the revitalization of the neighborhood that it is expected to lead.

Summary:

Summary:
Architects Sabine Müller and Andreas Quednau of SMAQ approach design through the use of narrative, telling stories about their projects’ contexts in order to accommodate the diverse and conflicting scales of contemporary urbanity. This monograph presents a selection of SMAQ’s projects in a way that brings this narrative quality to the fore. Interweaving short stories, project drawings, and photographs shed light on how design solutions gradually evolved out of the process, while three linked essays explain the guiding principles behind the firm’s work, intriguingly named "Giraffe," "Telegraph," and "Hero of Alexandria."

Summary:
In 1969, the French oil company Total began implementing a mass-production model for its gas stations—large ones for France's freeways, and the smaller roadside units. The company called in Jean Prouvé, who had already amply demonstrated his skills in the field of prefabrication. This volume documents this dimension of Prouvé's "demontable" architecture.

It tells the story behind Gehry’s own house, which upset his neighbors and excited the world with its mix of the traditional and the extraordinary, and recounts how Gehry came to design the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, his remarkable structure of swirling titanium that changed a declining city into a destination spot.
