Summary:
The Argentine architect Ignacio Dahl Rocha and the Swiss architect Jacques Richter have been regarded as prominent champions of an elegant brand of modernity at least since their design of the Espacité Tower on Place Le Corbusier in La Chaux-de-Fonds and their renovation of Jean Tschumis Nestlé corporate headquarters on the shores of Lake Geneva. Their work in the United States and Canada, which began when they were students together at Yale University, is increasingly expanding to include South America as well. In the last fifteen years, they have completed numerous projects, including cultural, educational, administrative, hospital, and residential buildings, primarily in Switzerland but also in Germany, Saudi Arabia, and Argentina. The most important are presented here, in this only current monograph on the firm.

Summary:
New visions and ideas are always taking shape in the head of the architect, Sergei Tchoban. He reaches for a pencil or an ink brush, allowing us to participate in the creative process. His veduta are not merely created for their own sake, but rather serve, too, as spatial innovations for real buildings. Trained in the Classicism of his native city of St. Petersburg, the architect builds in a frank, modern style, whilst still enjoying the study of architectural ideas from previous centuries. This book follows Tchoban's trains of thought from the rivers Neva to Spree, using illustrations of his pictures and buildings, which were created in the studio of nps tchoban voss. The book shows how timeless principles for designing architectural space can flow from architectural history into contemporary architecture.

Summary:
Richard Meier, one of America's most influential and widely emulated architects, began his career in the early 1960s designing private residential projects, whose elegant modernist style and white facades have become icons of modern architecture. Renowned as the designer of large-scale works around the world, including the Jubilee Church in Rome and the Getty Center in Los Angeles, Meier has set an international style all his own based on the purity and power of his unique vision. This beautifully photographed volume is the first to document Meier's complete catalogue of museum and gallery projects, including the seminal High Museum in Atlanta (recently featured on a U.S. postage stamp in a series that includes the Guggenheim Museum and the Chrysler Building), the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, the Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills, the Getty Center, and the Ara Pacis Museum in Rome. Richard Meier Museums presents these and other celebrated projects in stunning full-color interior and exterior photography and extensive drawings and plans to give the fullest understanding of this modernist master's remarkable contribution to the art of museum design.

Summary:
With the advent of Prairie style architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright embarked on a journey that would forever change the course of architecture. During this extraordinarily prolific period, roughly the first quarter of the twentieth century, Wright built the first great modern American houses. He cast aside many of the conventions of the past, opening up interior spaces so that there might be a more subtle flow of rooms. The plans for Prairie style architecture were based on a tartan plaid of main spaces and secondary spaces, of public rooms and circulation spaces. Their decentralized asymmetry did not follow the Beaux Arts insistence on a primary, often dominating, focal point—a vestige of its roots as a symbolic architecture for divine-right royalty. Following Wright's philosophy, Prairie design was emphatically democratic and non-hierarchical. Frank Lloyd Wright Prairie Houses comprehensively demonstrates this philosophy. Focusing on interiors and details, the book features more than 70 Prairie style houses and other buildings, still extant, in lavish, full-color photography.

Summary:
Perhaps more than any other architect practicing today, Peter Eisenman has made a career out of devising a dialectic of oppositions in architecture. With references to societal alienation and existing architectural forms, his work derives much from Friedrich Nietzsche, Noam Chomsky, and Jacques Derrida. He led the loosely knit group of architects known as "The New York Five" (which included John Hejduk, Michael Graves, Charles Gwathmey, and Richard Meier), who made an effort to introduce a theory and artistry of modernist architecture as rigorous as that of the European avant-garde. This is the first comprehensive single-volume overview ever published on Eisenman's buildings and projects, from his first work, House I (1960), to his most recent projects, currently under construction in Spain and Germany. The book includes all the projects Eisenman has created, with essays from international architects and critics, including Greg Lynn, Sanford Kwinter, and Stan Allen.Eisenman currently teaches at New York's Cooper Union and at Princeton University. He has designed a wide range of projects, including the Wexner Center at Ohio State University, which received a 1993 National Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects, and the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin, which opened in spring 2005.

Summary:
"UN Studio" is the innovative firm founded by Ben van Berkel and Caroline Bos, two Dutch designers creating some of the most ambitious and celebrated architecture of their generation. Fluidity and flexibility are hallmarks of UN Studio projects, and many of these projects have literally reinvented a number of standard building types, such as power stations, museums, bridges, transportation hubs, and live-work residences (including one based on a Möbius strip). UN Studio projects fuse a sophisticated understanding of digital design with a formal and material exploration that has ensured that their work reaches far beyond the "supermodernism" associated with other Dutch firms. This book presents the firm's complete body of work, including several major projects in Germany (Mercedes-Benz Museum, Stuttgart), Italy (Pierodi Pier, Genoa harbor), Switzerland (Hotel Castell, Zuoz), Korea (Galleris Hallin, Seoul) and many in the Netherlands.
