Ils sont lisibles en superposition et permettent de multiples niveaux de lecture, en épaisseur, en profondeur : il s'agit clairement d'une recherche de réponses. L'idée s'y décline en variations : couleur, proportions, hiérarchies, ordre, pleins et vides, mouvement. La feuille dessinée est donc le lieu où l'idée n'est pas « simplement » représentée ou décrite, mais plutôt ce chemin tortueux où elle naît, se développe et se précise. Après « Peter Märkli. À la recherche d'un langage », publié en 2019 par Cosa Mentale, Caryatide, propose à nouveau une étude approfondie de l'œuvre de Peter Märkli. Le livre « Peter Märkli. Dessins, disegni » se présente comme une réédition (édition franco-italienne), augmentée et mise à jour avec des planches inédites, de l'ouvrage original paru chez Quart Verlag en 2015 (édition anglo-allemande). Le livre est constitué d'une sélection du corpus de 700 dessins collectés au fil des ans par Peter Märkli lui-même.
