Summary:
"Catalogue" is the quirky title of this, the first collection of the work of Project Orange, the highly successful and inovative design and architecture practice. Project Orange, having demonstrated a keen interest in design and cultural issues through their work, referencing here, with tongue-in-cheek and yet soberly, the previous 'catalogues' of IKEA, Sears, Habitat, and the like. Concerned, at the same time, with the relationship between ideas, interiors and buildings, Project Orange consider that progress and recent technological advances mean that the way people percieve their environments are always in flux. For them, architecture literally provides the containers for us to work and live within; but more than this, these containers create a framework of meaning for inhabitation and lifestyle. In "Catalogue" these and other of Project Orange's beliefs are made accessible to everybody with an interest in style, design and the built environment.

Summary:
This book traces the varied course of the relationships between an architect and his clients, between an architect and the design briefs set for him, and between the architect and his own intellectual approach to design and its impact on his work. The text, with specially commissioned pictures, explores Pawson’s design process, working methods and philosophical approach, and illuminates the emotional and artistic content of his work. Through a close examination of ten diverse projects, Deyan Sudjic considers the way in which design is influenced by the processes of construction and making, and explores the nature and significance of the finished scheme.

Summary:
Although Frank Lloyd Wright designed more than 1,000 projects during his long and prolific career, Auldbrass Plantation, in Yemassee, South Carolina, is the only plantation he ever designed. It is also one of the largest and most complex projects he ever undertook. Wright had an unusually intense commitment to Auldbrass and worked on it, off and on, for more than twenty years, from 1938 until his death in 1959. Because Auldbrass was private and because it fell into disrepair in the 1960's after the owners' death, it was rarely photographed or studied, and as a consequence little has been known about this major work. Now, with the completed restoration and new photography, this book affords the first opportunity to see one of Wright's greatest works, as the master himself originally envisioned it. Through photos, plans, and drawings, we see what Wright planned, and how it has finally all been either restored or realized for the first time.
