Summary:
Dallegret’s own life and work denies anything so predictable as a neat synopsis, but in essence his work, beginning in Paris in the late 1950s and early 60s, and later taking in New York and Montréal, absorbs everything from intricate line drawings for a series of astrological vehicles and designs for a number of machines (from those that assist in cooking a meal to others that generate literature) to the ‘A Home Is Not a House’ collaboration with the critic Reyner Banham; a drugstore/gallery in Montréal; proposals for a new Montréal Palais Metro; designs for chairs, more cars and yet more machines; a film collaborative set up to shoot a western; contributions to the Montréal 67 Expo; engraved bars of soap; subversive credit cards; ‘ironique’ villas and light installations. The book will illustrate a great many of these works and contains essays on Dallegret’s life and legacy by the historians Alessandra Ponte and Laurent Stalder. GOD & CO is published to accompany an exhibition at the Architectural Association, London.

Studio Mumbai is composed of a few architects and nearly a hundred craftsmen– carpenters, masons, plumbers, electricians, and stonecutters– all working full time. Their work is based on a constant dialogue: “In India, a country with a population of 1,2 billion, the majority of construction is carried out without architects, which does not prevent them from being human in the largest sense. This reflection also forms part of one of our work’s most critical aspect…” reveals Bijoy Jain, the founder of Studio Mumbai. The Studio is a human infrastructure of skilled craftsmen and architects who design and build the work directly.

Summary:
Norman Foster is a phenomenon - as an architect, but also as an individual. He is responsible for a dozen or more of the most recognizable buildings of the last 30 years. Amongst many other buildings, Norman Foster is responsible for the design of Beijing's new airport, one of the world's largest, for the Rossiya tower in Moscow, in contention to be the tallest skyscraper in Europe until the credit crunch killed it, for one of the towers at Ground Zero in Manhattan, and for a crop of new towers in London. He designed the Reichstag, the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banks headquarters in London and China, the new Wembley stadium and the British Museum's new court. Deyan Sudjic's insightful and elegantly written biography charts the remarkable life of one of the world's most influential architectural figures.

Summary:
This book revisits the history of modernism in architecture through the legacy of one of its protagonists, Armenian architect Gabriel Guevrekian (c. 1900–70). Born in Istanbul, Guevrekian grew up in Tehran and then moved to Vienna to study architecture at the Kunstgewerbeschule; he later worked with Oskar Strnad, Josef Hoffmann, Adolf Loos, Henri Sauvage and Robert Mallet-Stevens. Among Guevrekian’s famous designs are the Cubist Garden for Villa Noailles in France and two houses for the Vienna Werkbund exhibition. Before he turned 30, Guevrekian was recognized as one of the protagonists of the European avant-garde in Paris. During the 1930s, Guevrekian spent a few years in Iran designing public buildings. Later, after the World War II, he took up teaching positions in Europe and America. All of Guevrekian’s various pursuits, and the homes and nationalities he held in Asia, Europe and then America, led the architect to a serial adoption of personae. Guevrekian was an architect, an avant-gardist and a cosmopolitan. He made every discipline meaningful, every city central, every period epochal, simply by his own very tangible engagement with it.
