Summary:
A.J. Lode Janssens is one of Belgium’s most idiosyncratic architects and a radical educator. He was cofounder of the experimental studio Atelier Alpha and the Sint-Lucas Werkgemeenschap, a workshop linking architectural education, practice and research, and operated in close collaboration with ILAUD, the International Laboratory of Architecture and Urban Design. This publication presents The Balloon, an all-but-unknown temporary pneumatic home experiment, built in 1973 in Humbeek, where he lived with his family until 1986. Lode Janssens considered it an uncompromising ephemeral attempt at de-architecturalization and living in harmony with nature: a cave-dwelling, a work-in-progress, an empirical residence. This publication accompanies the eponymous exhibition at CIVA in Brussels.

Summary:
English architect and writer Sir Peter Cook, renowned for his free-thinking spirit translated into architectural lines and shapes, is perhaps most well-known as the co-founder of the avant-garde architectural group Archigram in the 1960s. A selection of his drawings is offered here as part of the exhibition series “Louisiana On Paper” at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. Cook believes that visions of the future – whatever it might offer – are most clearly expressed and can best be discussed in drawings. In his work we encounter kaleidoscopic colours and spiralling shapes, voluntary architectural mutations, and twisting and turning buildings transforming into escapist dreamscapes.

Summary:

Summary:
James Stirling: Revisionary Modernist is the first in-depth, book-length analysis of the architect's work. Amanda Reeser Lawrence focuses on six of Stirling's projects from the early 1950s through the late 1970s, offering detailed formal analysis of the buildings and drawings while also mapping his relationship to a broader architectural and cultural context. Though it is widely held that Stirling took a mid-career turn toward postmodernism, Lawrence shows that he was undeniably modern throughout his career. She clarifies the ways in which Stirling understood modernism as inextricably linked to the past and placed his own work in what he termed a "dialogue with architectural tradition."

Summary:
Today, contemporary landscape design is increasingly drawing from ideas of sustainability and ecological stability. Not in fact new, the foundations of this approach stem from early twentieth century Germany, where architects and planners were already beginning to use the design concepts which are now referred to as "green." This ecological school of thought was driven by modernist landscape architect Leberecht Migge (1881-1935). Working with significant modernist architects of the age including Martin Elsaesser, Ernst May, Bruno Taut, and Martin Wagner Migge was responsible for some of the most important housing and planning projects of the age; the mass housing settlements, or Gro siedlungen, of Frankfurt Main and Berlin. Using "biotechnic" principles to integrally link dwelling and garden, Migge was able to recycle household waste to grow foodstuffs through the use of innovative infrastructure and open space planning. Also a skilled park and garden designer, he drew together green and architectural elements in his "garden-architectonic" approach.

Summary:
