This publication is a monography on Alvar Aalto, one of the key exponents of Modernism and the International Style. He began his career in the 1920s with buildings in the Nordic Classical style, but was drawn to International Modernism by the end of the decade. Aalto's Paimio Sanatorium (1929-1933) can be counted as a masterwork of the period in the global context. In the mid-1930s, Aalto broke away from the Modernist group known as CIAM to develop his own vocabulary of form in a more complex direction and he created the free-form approach to design for which his architecture became world famous.

Arkan Zeytinoglu calls his projects "built theory." Since many years, he has dealt with "the geometry of light", which describes best his special approach to architecture. But as an architect, Zeytinoglu, who studied at University of Technology TU Graz under Günther Domenig and later on at Cooper Union in New York, devotes himself mainly to building activities. Since his office’s foundation in 1995, realizations have included works in the field of hotels and resorts, gastronomy, and luxury residences. In May 2010, the internationally much-noticed Austrian pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai (ARGE SPAN & Zeytinoglu) was inaugurated. This publication contains all essential realizations as well as a work list and an outlook at the buildings to be completed soon.

Summary:
Total Fluidity collects 10 years of academic design research conducted at the Zaha Hadid master-class at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Under the leadership of Zaha Hadid and Patrik Schumacher the studio developed a distinct contribution to the emerging style of Parametricism. All elements of architecture become fluid, ready to engage with each other and with divers contexts leading to an overall intensification of relations. This style is architecture’s response to 21st Century network society. The radicality and consistency with which this style is being pursued across all scales and programmes results in an impressive body of work. Academic design research can go deeper and farther than professional work in probing the consequences of a radical design hypothesis. Within academia architects can be more experimental. They can afford to be more principled and more self-critical, avoiding pragmatic compromises.

Summary:
The Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin is not only a museum but also an architectural milestone. The last building of the great German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969 is widely considered one of the most perfect statements of his aesthetic, with its monumental steel columns and cantilevered roof with glass enclosure. The Neue Nationalgalerie is especially famous for its 50 x 50-meter hall. There is no other van der Rohe structure in which the boundary between inside and outside is as porous as in this famous hall. This publication presents the building from today's perspectives, but also features historical photographs taken during the construction period, the building's opening in 1968 and the spectacular early exhibitions that took place there.
