Carlo Scarpa (1906 1978) was denied the appropriate appreciation during his lifetime. His work was dismissed as just being art and only after his death people began to understand the high quality contained. This book shows the development of his individual architectural language by linking aspects of the arts with architecture. From his sensitive consideration of the urban context to the composition of stunning details; the author manages to give the reader an insight into the architect s work. Especially the investigation in his exhibition designs illustrate Scarpa s knowledge of material and his solving of complex problems. Summary:

Summary:
The work of Bart Prince is recognized internationally for both its seminal creative vision and for carrying on an American tradition of individualism in architecture originating with Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Bruce Goff. Prince shares with these pioneers a fundamental way of thinking about modern American architecture, which in his work he has combined with a firm belief in the experiential impact of a building to render a contemporary style all his own. Originally published a decade ago, this updated version includes five new houses, demonstrating the architect’s maturing style and continued commitment to creating transcendent experiences in manipulated space. Stunning photographs and floor plans bring the reader as close as possible to experiencing these uniquely formed, magnificent buildings. A remarkable collaboration between the author, the photographer, and the architect, The Architecture of Bart Prince is the only comprehensive introduction to one of the most creative architects practicing in America today.

Summary:
Charles Rennie Mackintosh was one of Scotland’s greatest architect. He had far fewer commissions than his contemporary Frank Lloyd Wright, but with a few bold and innovative structures — the Glasgow School of Art and Hill House among them —he had a profound influence on art and architecture at the turn of the twentieth century. Like Wright, Mackintosh designed in totality, down to the furniture and fabrics used in his structures, and he was influenced by the Japanese, particularly in the simplicity of his designs and themes from nature. This publication contains both historic photographs and modern images of Mackintosh’s major works taken by architectural photographer Mark Fiennes.

This publication features twelve projects ranging in scale from private residences and adaptive renovations to large public buildings, as well as a foreword by Toshiko Mori,an essay by Chicago-based architect Brad Lynch, and a Q with John Ronan conducted by Robert McAnulty.
