Summary:
This book brings together 17 Kahn projects, ranging from private housing to commercial architecture, religious buildings, exhibition spaces, and government buildings. With the Jonas Salk Institute in La Jolla, California (1959–1965) Kahn created a workspace with superb functional and aesthetic qualities; the institute’s Minimalist elements radiate a sense of eternal beauty. The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth (1966–1972) occupies the somewhat faceless city like an island of spiritual space, an effect that is achieved by simplicity in design and materials. Also, the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad (1962–1974) and the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, National Assembly of Bangladesh in Dhaka that was finished after his death are buildings of monumental importance, demonstrating the vision the architect.

Summary:
Le Corbusier designed two collections of colors for the Salubra wallpaper company, the “Clavier de couleurs” of 1931, with 43 colors, and the 1959 collection, with 20. Not content with the choice of 43 colors drawn from his experience as an architect and painter, he organized the tones on 12 sample cards in such a manner that one could use a slider to isolate or combine different sets of three to five colors. Each of these cards contained a different chromatic atmosphere, intended, when used, to produce a particular spatial effect. Thus Le Corbusier not only created a useful tool but also a kind of testament of the purist theory of color. In 1959 he created a second collection reflecting the changes in his views, with 20 single colors assembled on a single “clavier.” In the first volume, Arthur Rüegg, a professor at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule and a specialist in Le Corbusier, explores the significance of the Salubra collections for the history of modern architecture.

This volume complements the travelling exhibition on Kuma's projects which opens in Syracuse (Sicily) in May 2005. Kuma's creative process and his painstaking work on the material in order to transform it into a building is documented through the presentation of the most important of his architectural works designed between 1994 and 2004. Luigi Alini's essay describes the artist's formative years, analyzing the various aspects of his research through themes and compositional mechanisms that have remained constant, his study and profound knowledge of materials, and the symbiosis between architecture and nature. A selection of Kuma's writings completes the volume.

Summary:
[SANAA Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa / works and projects] SANAA has distinguished itself by its original approach to projects. Every building is designed as a kind of equivalent of the abstract spatial diagram of the daily activity it is destined to house. The use of elementary volumes, simple geometry, translucent materials and polycarbonate casing produces a rarefied architecture that is strikingly contemporary. Its buildings include the Saishunkan Seiyaku Women's Dormitory (Kumamoto, 1991), the Multimedia Workshop (Kitakata, 1996), the S-House (Okayama, 1996), the K-Building (Ibaraki, 1997), the Gifu Kitagata Apartment (Gifu, 1998), the O-Museum (Nagano, 1999), and the Small House (Tokyo, 2000). In recent years the group has designed buildings for Prada, Issey Miyake and Christian Dior. This book has been published to accompany the monographic exhibition which after being mounted at the Kanazawa Museum will be held at the Basilica Palladiana in Vicenza from October onwards.

As in the first volume (Urbanomad, 3-211-20347-8), he finds entirely different conditions at each of the places he visits. The book accompanies the "Urbanomad" throughout his continuing flight and documents his projects the same way they were documented in the first volume.

Summary:
A crisp, functionalist approach, attention to detail and dramatic manipulation of space are the key characteristics that launched Eva Jiricna's award-winning architectural career in Britain. Her breakthrough came with the design of a shop for Joseph Ettedgul that so impressed the fashion industry it lead to commissions by other major names such as Joan and David, Esprit and Vidal Sassoon. Out of these projects grew a reputation for interiors, and in particular for Jiricna's signature component, the staircase: filigree constructions of complexity in sparkling steel. This book presents a selection of 39 completed projects and designs, visually documented in 250 photographs. Typologically diverse, these works include shops, apartments, offices and clubs plus a hotel, library, orangery, and railway station. Features an essay by Peter Kratochull and an introduction by Peter Murray. Text in Czech and English.
