Text and image content of several art books designed by Anja Lutz withdraw to let appear the non-descript details: the margins, the edges, the backgrounds, the spaces between the lines … Each book is unique in its choice of format, material, layout, and rhythm. The selected pages underwent a process of transformation in which with surgical precision Lutz dissects them, layer by layer, removing the vital parts and revealing their skeleton. The results are filigrane grids, fragments of images and traces of the layout that form intricately layered compositions of voids, exposing the hidden relations between the pages.

Summary:
Museums' attempts to classify and present the world in miniature inevitably mean that much of their collections are forgotten and marginalized. New York based artist Mark Dion (b. 1961), renowned for his work exploring taxonomy, archaeology, and ecology, documents his opportunistic encounters with the Museum of Manchesters neglected drawers and overlooked recesses that are home to redundant labels, orphaned mounts, defunct teaching models, botanical freaks, egyptian fakes, and the minutiae that have fallen through the cracks of museum practice. Finally back in print, ''Bureau of the Centre for the Study of Surrealism and Its Legacy'', Dion's project and book are a repository for the detritus of museum life and a work in process, classifying the museums unclassifiable while exploring the bureaucratic workings of the institution.

Summary:
This artist's book by New York-based Dutch artist Anouk Kruithof transforms selections from collector Brad Feuerhelm's vernacular photo collection into five dramatic, mysterious and erotic visual narratives that Kruithof calls image-stories. To accomplish this the artist isolated herself in a bungalow for an extended period of time with digitized versions of the photographs and played with their organization and layering on the computer screen. The resulting alterations and collages saved as screen-shots comprise her experiments with making sense of this voluminous archive. Interspersed between the stories are excerpts from the email correspondence between artist and collector. Kruithof's work has most recently been shown at the Stedelijk, Amersterdam, and is the recipient of the 2014 Charlotte Kohler Prize and ICP Infinity Award, New York. Feuerhelm is a London-based American collector and dealer in vernacular photography. Brief essays on the project by Kruithof and Feuerhelm bookend the image-stories.

Summary:
Never loving the static presentation of art found in the common exhibition catalog, Swiss contemporary artist Athene Galiciadis (b. 1978) chose to show her work in a way that allows the art to lead the viewer as opposed to the essay or curators leading the viewer. In ''An Acrylic Glass Pyramid and Three Pendulums Attached to a Triangle on a Table'', a timeline of the artist's work and of those who inspired her have been created. Featured are works printed on graph paper of figures, spirals, patterns, vases, and a self-portrait, as well as photographic documents inspired by an early twentieth-century Swiss artist, healer, and visionary, Emma Kunz, known for her geometrical drawings made on graph paper with the aid of a pendulum. Based on Kunzs precise empirical approach to producing knowledge and art, Galiciadis has created this new series of monochromatic colored pencil drawings, whose configurations of shape and pattern draw us into her perceptions and interpretation of the world.

Summary:
Bringing a poet’s perspective to an artist’s archive, this book examines wordplay in the art and thought of American artist Gordon Matta-Clark (1943–1978). A pivotal figure in the postminimalist generation who was also the son of a prominent Surrealist, Matta-Clark was a leader in the downtown artists' community in New York in the 1970s, and is widely seen as a pioneer of what has come to be known as social practice art. Examining notes, statements, titles, letters, and interviews in light of what they reveal about his work at large, Frances Richard unearths archival, biographical, and historical information, linking Matta-Clark to Conceptualist peers and Surrealist and Dada forebears. "Gordon Matta-Clark: Physical Poetics" explores the paradoxical durability of Matta-Clark’s language, and its role in an aggressively physical oeuvre whose major works have been destroyed.
