Summary:
"Always and never" is a one-off title by Ari Marcopolous combining old and new photographs in a unique body of work, thought to create a larger picture of Marcopoulos' work. "For every photograph that has been presented, there are hundreds more that he has not yet found the right moment to introduce. Timing is not just in relation to taking the shot, but also to its public exposure." states curator Kate Fowle in her text for the 2006 "Flow" exhibition catalog. Marcopoulos’s work is often talked about in the context of his engagement with subcultures (skateboarding, art, music). Non-descript skies, anonymous television footage, and unpopulated landscapes counter the action of extreme sports, the stage, or the street, for which he is most known for. The book is published on occasion of the exhibition "Always and Never" at Galleria Patricia Armocida in Milan.

Summary:
"The book consists of a series of repeated gestures, often neglected and/or obliterated. Hastily drawn expressionistic heads and faces inspired by grotesques, caricatures, cosmic characters, urban nowheres, classical sculptures, and personal experience. Also there are a couple of abstracts obtusely rendered with marker pen, which integrate in the open narrative structure. The aim is to create psychedelic melancholia. I try to keep a balance between the crudely drawn and the more soft stuff, like being on an abandoned traffic island surrounded by lush vegetation." Wesley Willis (Chicago, 1963 – 2003) began his artistic career singing on the street, accompanied by his Technics KN 2000 keyboard. He was soon playing opening slots for local bands, and later recording songs as an homage to these performances (i.e. "Urge Overkill", "Swervedriver", "Foo Fighters", "The Frogs"). In 1989, Willis was diagnosed as schizophrenic; he explains that writing, performing, and recording help quiet the voices in his head. Most of his exposure came as an internet phenomenon during the early days of peer-to-peer file sharing. The Exhibition WW vs. GRRRR was first realized in St. Gallen (Switzerland) and then went to s'Hertogenbosch (Holland) and Giza (Egypt). It combines the first retrospective of Willis’s oeuvre with an extensive selection of work by the young Swiss artist Ingo Giezendanner. 2001 is edited by Urs Lehni.

Summary:
RB Kitaj started painting The Architects in August of 1979 to celebrate the remodelling of his home by MJ Long. Painted largely without the models themselves present, this portrait of his friends against the backdrop of the stepped bookcase designed for him by MJ marks a transition in Kitaj’s development as an artist. Breaking with his earlier graphic work, Kitaj experimented with technique in search of a renewed artistic vision, arriving at an awkwardness of composition reminiscent of Manet and a colouration inspired by van Gogh. Kitaj: The Architects collects the diary entries of his subjects through each sitting session, from the first preliminary sketches to the final delivery of the painting in late 1981. Providing a revealing insight into Kitaj’s artistic method, Colin St John Wilson and his wife MJ Long’s observations capture the creative process through the explorations of initial ideas, happy accidents, compositional struggles and dissatisfactions, to the finished artefact.
