Summary:
This volume gathers a collection of 50 texts on book design written by designers Siri Lee Lindskrog and Amanda-Li Kollberg of Berlin-based graphic and type design studio Formal Settings. The texts are based on a selection of books from the private collection of the Hopscotch Reading Room, a conceptual bookstore and event space in Berlin. Each text centers on a single book from the collection, examining its visual and tactile elements—from materials to layout to binding to typography. The essays explore the role and potential of books through the lens of design, mapping what their physical forms communicate about their content. Lindskrog and Kollberg draw parallels between each book as a design object and the cultural movements, political landscapes and economic conditions under which they were created. The 50 texts are paired with an introduction by Formal Settings, a foreword by Hopscotch Reading Room and an afterword in which designer, author and educator Prem Krishnamurthy offers additional framing and perspective to the project.

Summary:
An explosion of little architectural magazines in the 1960s and 1970s instigated a radical transformation in architectural culture, as the magazines acted as a site of innovation and debate. Clip, Stamp, Fold takes stock of seventy little magazines from this period that were published in over a dozen cities. Coined in the early twentieth century to designate progressive literary journals, the term little magazine was remobilized during the 1960s to grapple with the contemporary proliferation of independent architectural periodicals. In addition to short-lived radical magazines, this book includes pamphlets and building instruction manuals along with professional magazines that experienced moments of littleness, influenced by the graphics and intellectual concerns of their self-published contemporaries.

Many prophesied that the printed book would be doomed by developments in digital media. Far from it! The book has not only survived, but as tactile qualities have gained significance in our increasingly digital world there is also more unhindered experimentation with bound paper pages now than ever before. The materiality of the medium can give sensual emphasis to complex visual and textual content or appreciate its value. Some content isn t even apparent until it takes the form of a real object the printed book. Fully Booked is devoted to current cover and book design. It presents material from printed publications that succeed in striking a crucial balance between the market s demands for availability, legibility and durability on the one hand and sophisticated visual and content design on the other. By featuring projects in this experimental field that combine enormous creativity with skilled craftsmanship, Fully Booked also reveals trends in today s graphic design. In addition, Fully Booked presents a choice selection of artist books. Created by hand and printed in limited editions, these publications push the boundaries of conventional book design. Its range of inspiring examples not only makes Fully Booked a must-have for graphic designers, book creators and publishers, but also for every book lover.

Summary:
In the late eighteenth century, the British took greater interest than ever before in observing and recording all aspects of the natural world. Travelers and colonists returning from far-flung lands provided dazzling accounts of such exotic creatures as elephants, baboons, and kangaroos. The engraver Thomas Bewick (1753–1828) harnessed this newfound interest by assembling the most comprehensive illustrated guide to nature of his day. "A General History of Quadrupeds", first published in 1790, showcases Bewick’s groundbreaking engraving techniques that allowed text and images to be published on the same page. From anteaters to zebras, armadillos to wolverines, this delightful volume features engravings of over four hundred animals alongside descriptions of their characteristics as scientifically understood at the time. Quadrupeds reaffirms Bewick’s place in history as an incomparable illustrator, one whose influence on natural history and book printing still endures today. With a new foreword by Yann Martel.
