Summary:
Reflecting daily life in Slovenia, ''Living With Water'' is the catalogue for the Slovenian Pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition. From rivers, glacial lakes, and waterfalls, to bogs, karst, disappearing lakes, and thermal springs, water is one of the most potent and decisive factors determining both the country's landscapes and its supply of drinking water. A multidisciplinary team of thirteen architects, landscape architects, urban planners, researchers, and strategists rethink water management and the protection of water resources. From site-specific case studies to alternative models, they explore the complexity of natural and artificial water systems.

Summary:
Architects draw buildings, and the buildings they draw are usually populated by representations of the human figure — drawn, copied, collaged, or inserted — most often to suggest scale. It is impossible to represent architecture without representing the human form. This book collects more than 1,000 scale figures by 250 architects but presents them in a completely unexpected way: it removes them from their architectural context, displaying them on the page, buildingless, giving them lives of their own. They are presented not thematically or chronologically but encyclopedically, alphabetically by architect (Aalto to Zumthor). In serendipitous juxtapositions, the autonomous human figures appear and reappear, displaying endless variations of architecturally rendered human forms.

Summary:
The exhibition installation designed by Cino Zucchi Architects for the 16th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice becomes the occasion for a series of thematic readings on the works of the Milanese architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni, gathered here in a volume edited by Zucchi and Orsina Simona Pierini. The architect’s multifunctional building complex in Corso Italia, a “silent masterpiece” which impacted contemporary architectural thinking, unfurls a complex spatial narration from the scale of the city to that of material and detail. The book examines this reality through original documents from the LCD archive, new photography, and specially made 3D reconstructions.

Summary:
This book addresses the contemporary pavilion phenomenon and those often temporary and functionless architectural structures commissioned and exhibited by art institutions around the world (including the annual Serpentine Pavilion in London, Young Architects Program at MoMA PS1 in New York and the MPavilion in Melbourne). Despite its ubiquity and popular success, the contemporary pavilion has been inconsistently theorized and frequently disparaged. In this book, the authors reclaim the pavilion against those that would dismiss the phenomenon as symptomatic of the exhaustion of the critical potential of architecture's intersection with art. The pavilion phenomenon also occasions a timely interrogation of larger questions concerning the changing relations between culture and the economy- changes that are shifting the planes on which architecture and art meet.

Summary:
“Stadium” is the theme chosen for the Chilean Pavilion at the Sixteenth International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale. The intent is to capture the story of the National Stadium in Santiago—both a building and a city for a day. On September 29, 1979, 40,000 families filled the stadium’s seats; around 250,000 people from all over the country’s capital. The occasion was the signing of documents that transformed these people into proprietors. Prior to the event, the press circulated a list of names of the people summoned to the stadium—beneficiaries of “Operación Sitio,” a public housing program—together with a plan that showed the stadium subdivided into boroughs. This book tells the dual story of the stadium and the exhibition at the Chilean Pavilion, interwoven with the Architecture Exhibition’s broad theme of “Freespace.”

The third volume in a four-part series on ALICE's teachings, ''Beyond the Object: The Imagination of Space'' follows up on ''The House 1 Catalogue'' and ''The Invention of Space'', proposing an alternative cultural history of architecture derived from the notion of spatial design rather than technical engineering and construction. Among the topics discussed are the common and scientific understandings of space and how they can be applied to contemporary architectural practice. Using Zurich as an exemplar of urban planning and development, the new volume combines fact with fiction to broaden the view upon future scenarios.
