Son œuvre, marquée par un vif intérêt pour la psychologie, sonde les émotions humaines : l'amour, la dépendance, la sexualité, le rejet, la jalousie et l'abandon.

Summary:
Bernhardt’s boundless visual appetite has established her as one of the most exciting painters working today. Thinking about the relationship between art, objects, and commerce, Bernhardt spotlights iconic motifs of cartoons and cultural symbols. Colors and lines bleed and pool together, revealing Bernhardt’s brisk and improvisational process. Monumental in size, subject matter, and vibrancy, her works demand attention. Expanding on the exhibition at David Zwirner, London, in 2022, this catalogue includes additional paintings and works on paper in which Bernhardt develops her ongoing body of work. With many details of paintings, this significant publication gives the artist’s work ample space to play. Suzanne Hudson’s essay considers Bernhardt’s work from an art-historical perspective and explores the artist’s work and life.

Richard Serra’s hugely successful body of work consistently explores the possibilities of form and matter. Serra’s steel sculptures are held in major collections internationally, and his drawings assert themselves as abstract victories. Through the use of black paintstick—a combination of oil paint, wax, and pigment, to which he has used since 1971—Serra’s drawings convey a strong sense of optical weight, acutely similar to the physical presence of his sculptures. 2022, the artist’s largest single forged round to date, investigates properties of weight and scale.

Summary:
For "Breaking protocol", transdisciplinary artist Maria Hupfield embarked on a research project on the protocols of Indigenous performance—tracing Indigenous knowledge systems, land-preservation practices and feminist scholarship to illuminate strategies for enacting refusal within decolonial frameworks. The book draws from Hupfield’s "Coffee Break"—a series of conversations held over Zoom during the pandemic, in which Hupfield invited international Indigenous performance artists to discuss their work (from dance to stand-up comedy), who in turn invited other artists to join the conversations. Building on these exchanges, "Breaking protocol" asks what we can learn from Indigenous, place-based artistic modes of making and practice to open spaces for reciprocity and multiplicity.

Summary:
This retrospective of the oeuvre of Petra Blaisse and her acclaimed studio Inside Outside presents a kaleidoscopic view of their work across interior, exhibition, and landscape design over the course of more than three decades. Rather than working solely on static buildings, Inside Outside design environments across a huge variety of scales, from expansive urban landscapes to intimate domestic spaces defined by soft textile walls. The resulting spaces defy conventional classification. This comprehensive survey encompasses renowned projects including the recently completed Taipei Performing Arts Center; the Kunsthal Rotterdam; Biblioteca degli Alberi in Milan, a park spanning almost ten hectares; and LocHal Library in Tilburg, a vast factory repurposed using an architecture of semi-translucent curtains. It also presents revelatory unrealised projects and explores the studio’s many collaborations, including the rich body of work produced with OMA since the late 1980s.

Summary:
he combination of pictorial motifs and words or sentences has long been a special feature of Ed Ruscha’s (born 1937) paintings. As he himself commented in an interview in 1989: "Words are pattern-like, and in their horizontality they answer my investigation into landscape ... they are almost not words--they are objects that become words." This attraction to combinations of word and image has naturally disposed Ruscha toward the book as an art form, and as both an object and subject in his paintings. This volume commemorates a bequest of paintings, photographs and books by Ruscha to the Museum Brandhorst in Munich, complementing their existing works.
