Summary:
Publication documenting two recent bodies of work by New York-based artist Gareth Long. Untitled (Stories) is a set of lenticular prints accompanied by the book series that pivots around a disjunction between the oeuvre of J.D. Salinger and the design of his books: the original Little, Brown & Co. book cover designs are a starting point for nine large-scale prints. An unfinished Gustave Flaubert novel is the central point around which the other works revolve. Bouvard and Pécuchet's Invented Desk for Copying is a suite of two-sided desk-sculptures that form the core of a related suite of projects. At the heart of both works lies a fascination with books as uniquely flexible vehicles of meaning, as complex compendia to be read, re-read and mis-read.

Internationally acclaimed photographer Arnaud Maggs is best known for detailed, grid-like portrait studies that betray a stark intimacy. These include 64 Portrait Studies (1978) and 48 Views (1981-83), a series that included such Canadian celebrities as Yousuf Karsh and Leonard Cohen. In 1973 after a career as a graphic designer (Maggs designed the album cover for Jazz at Massey Hall released by Charles Mingus in 1955), Arnaud Maggs decided to become a visual artist at the age of 47. For nearly 40 years his work has been marked by questions of mortality and reverberates with historical and anthropological meaning. This first career-overview showcases his monumental photographic installations, documentation of found ephemera, books, typography, classification systems and diagrammatic drawings.

Summary:

Summary:
Few writers have had a greater impact on the methods of art-making in the twentieth century than Raymond Roussel (1877-1933). Marcel Duchamp acknowledged Roussel as the foremost influence on his "Large Glass"; André Breton described him as the "greatest magnetizer of modern times"; and at least two generations of conceptual artists, from Allen Ruppersberg and Guy de Cointet to Rodney Graham and Paul Etienne Lincoln have borrowed or adapted Roussel's "procédé" for writing, which involved selecting two similar-sounding words, elaborating them into two similar-sounding sentences and then "writing a tale which can start with the first and finish by the second." Reproducing a wealth of archival materials, artworks and writings, this volume - a kind of Roussel encyclopedia - assesses the writer's legacy in art for the first time. Alongside works by the above, it includes art by Max Ernst, Salvador Dalí, Joseph Cornell, Ree Morton and others; and writings on Roussel by Jean Cocteau, Paul Eluard, Michel Leiris, Duchamp, Dalí, Philippe Soupault, Ernst, Breton, Ruppersberg, Michel Foucault, Jacques Brunius and Michel Butor.

Summary:
Thombu was a term used by the Dutch to describe a public land registry. The Incomplete Thombu poses as a bureaucratic document file and covers the subject of Tamil displacement during the civil conflict in Sri Lanka between 1983 and 2009. Though numerous documents of statistical data have recorded the displacement of civilians, few have highlighted the personal plights of those involved. This project records the stories of civilians removed from their homes and the memories that they took with them. T. Shanaathanan examines the subject of displacement through a series of drawings that overlay ground plans of houses drawn from memory by displaced Tamil-speaking civilians, with architect’s renderings and dry pastel drawings.
