Available in dvd format only.2003, USA, 116 minutes. "My architect" is a tale of love and art, betrayal and forgiveness - in which the illegitimate son of a legendary artist undertakes a five-year, worldwide exploration to understand his long-dead father. Louis I. Kahn, who died in 1974, is considered by many architectural historians to have been the most important architect of the second half of the twentieth century. A Jewish immigrant who overcame poverty and the effects of a devastating childhood accident, Kahn created a handful of intensely powerful and spiritual buildings - geometric compositions of brick, concrete and light - which, in the words of one critic, 'change your life.' While Kahn's artistic legacy was an uncompromising search for truth and clarity, his personal life was filled with secrets and chaos: He died, bankrupt and unidentified, in the men's room in Penn Station, New York, leaving behind three families - one with his wife of many years and two with women with whom he'd had long-term affairs. In My Architect, the child of one of these extra-marital relationships, Kahn's only son Nathaniel, sets out on an epic journey to reconcile the life and work of this mysterious, contradictory man.

Summary:
After the Seagram Building in New York, the Toronto-Dominion Centre in Toronto, the New National Gallery in Berlin and the Lake Shore Drive Apartment Buildings in Chicago, architect Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969) designed a gas station near Montreal in 1968. This simple and utilitarian building reflects the divergent views held by experts and laymen regarding "everyday" structures, which most of us tend to ignore. In addition to exploring the interplay of form and function in the works of Mies, this film gauges our awareness of architectural language and the role of the architect in society. Observations from some superstars of the world of architecture, including Rem Koolhaas, Elizabeth Diller and Phyllis Lambert, are interlaced with anecdotes from regular people who come into daily contact with the eminent architect's work. Original soundtrack is composed by acclaimed Ramachandra Borcar (a.k.a. DJ Ram). Format: DVD.

Award Winning Director Guy Maddin (The Heart of the World) continues in the freewheeling, genre-bending tradition that has made him one of Canada's most intriging and internationally respected artists with his latest work, My Winnipeg. My Winnipeg is a documentary (or docu-fantasia, as he describes it) about his hometown. Equal parts mystical rumination and personal history, city chronicle and deranged fantasy. My Winnipeg -which is framed as a goodbye letter - blends local myth with childhood trauma. A deliriously layered provocation, My Winnipeg is outrageous, informative and wildy entertaining.

For Antonio Negri, renowned political philosopher and author of the international bestseller "Empire" (co-authored with Michael Hardt, 2000), a 17 year long chapter of repressive Italian politics of detention, exile, and imprionment recently ended. For Antonio Negri, the cell of resistance from which he wrote became an enclosure of peace. The Cell is a DVD of three video interviews with Antonio Negri: 1997 while he was in exile in Paris, 1998 in the Roman prison of Rebibbia, and 2003 after his release in Rome. DVD PAL version ONLY

Naturally, the road is paved with modern-age mishaps. This late-career delight is a masterful demonstration of the comic genius’s expert timing and sidesplitting visual gags, and a bemused last look at technology run amok.

Suburbia, and all it promises, has become the American Dream. With brutal honesty and a touch of irony, "The end of suburbia" explored the American Way of Life and its prospects as the planet enters the age of Peak Oil. Director Greg Greene once again takes us “through the looking glass” on a journey of discovery – a sobering yet vital and ultimately positive exploration of what the second half of the Oil Age has in store for us. Through personal stories and interviews we examine how declining world oil production has already begun to affect modern life in North America. Expert scientific opinion is balanced with “on the street” portraits from an emerging global movement of citizen’s groups who are confronting the challenges of Peak Oil in extraordinary ways. The clock is ticking. This movie asks the tough questions : Are we approaching Peak Oil now? What are the controversies surrounding our future energy options? Why are a growing number of specialists and citizens skeptical of these options? What are ordinary people across North America doing in their own communities to prepare for Peak Oil? And what will you do as energy prices skyrocket and the Oil Age draws to a close?

Summary:
Since World War II North Americans have invested much of their newfound wealth in suburbia. It has promised a sense of space, affordability, family life and upward mobility. As the population of suburban sprawl has exploded in the past 50 years, so too has the suburban way of life become embedded in the American consciousness. Suburbia, and all it promises, has become the American Dream. But as we enter the 21st century, serious questions are beginning to emerge about the sustainability of this way of life. With brutal honesty and a touch of irony, "The End of Suburbia" explores the American Way of Life and its prospects as the planet approaches a critical era, as global demand for fossil fuels begins to outstrip supply. World Oil Peak and the inevitable decline of fossil fuels are upon us now, some scientists and policy makers argue in this documentary. The consequences of inaction in the face of this global crisis are enormous. What does Oil Peak mean for North America? As energy prices skyrocket in the coming years, how will the populations of suburbia react to the collapse of their dream? Are today's suburbs destined to become the slums of tomorrow? And what can be done NOW, individually and collectively, to avoid The End of Suburbia ? Hosted by Barrie Zwicker. Featuring James Howard Kunstler, Peter Calthorpe, Michael Klare, Richard Heinberg, Matthew Simmons, Michael C. Ruppert, Julian Darley, Colin Campbell, Kenneth Deffeyes, Ali Samsam Bakhtiari and Steve Andrews. Directed by Gregory Greene. Produced by Barry Silverthorn. Summary:
A structure that embodied the apotheosis of architect Richard J. Neutra's work, the VDL Research House went up in 1932. It brought together several distinct phases of Neutra's career, including an early phase that celebrated thin surfaces, bands of windows, and small-sized silver and white volumes; a late 1930s and early 1940s fascination with outdoor living, with oversized windows and overhangs, exemplified by the Garden House; and a post-war fixation with environmental design. This movie carries viewers on a detailed tour of this facility and evaluates the way in which many of its structural and aesthetic aspects can be viewed as commentaries on various phases of his career.
