Summary:
Trix and Robert Haussmann are well known both in Switzerland and internationally for their vast contribution to design and interiors. Living and working together since the '60s, symbiotically creating and also sharing wonderful interiors filled with works of art and beautiful objects, one can think of them—and the spaces they inhabit—as an ever-evolving 'double self-portrait'. The Haussmanns have had close ties to the avant-garde of their time, have followed the various trends and artistic currents and have actively participated in the local scenes of Zurich or Bern. Through documenting their numerous exchanges and conversations with artists, dealers and creative kindred spirits, this book is a testimony of their lifelong interest in the visual arts, their active, enthusiastic and witty involvement with the Swiss art scene as well as their rather playful commitment to it.

Summary:
Sonia Delaunay was a true pioneer of modernist abstraction; breaking with the figurative vocabulary that subordinated color to subject matter, she placed dynamic color interaction at the core of her vision, whether expressed through painting, book illustration or costume and textile design. Drawing inspiration from both traditional Russian crafts and the modern frenetic metropolis, Delaunay’s work reflects the drastic changes ushered in by industrialization. Through her polyvalent practice, Delaunay helped construct the new modern woman that she herself embodied: equal parts avant-gardist, creative entrepreneur and businesswoman. This richly illustrated catalog showcases the range of Delaunay’s work as it unfolded over 60 years, from abstract paintings and works on paper to textile design, garments, fashion photography, books and carpets—even a brightly colored sports car.

Summary:
Presenting illustrations gathered together for the first time, Le Corbusier: Furniture and Interiors is a comprehensive account of Le Corbusier’s extensive work in furniture and interior design. As a young architect, Swiss-born Charles-Edouard Jeanneret primarily worked in designed furnishings. After he moved to Paris in the early 1920s and adopted his now famous moniker, Le Corbusier developed a particular interest in équipement, a term he coined for the essential furnishings of a residence. He focused specifically on tables, cabinets, and eventually the chrome and leather chairs—designed in collaboration with Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand—for which he became famous. These pieces exhibit Le Corbusier’s trademark metal detailing and elegant austerity. After World War II, Le Corbusier shifted to more functional designs for use in everyday life. These wooden pieces resemble packing crates, evoking a rustic design aesthetic rooted in functionality.

Summary:
Photographer, designer, architect and author on topics ranging from winter sports to the history of photography, Carlo Mollino (1905–1973) accomplished himself in a dizzying array of fields. The diversity and scale of his output often makes it seem somewhat daunting, but this volume coheres Mollino’s prolificness into an appetizing and eminently approachable whole, by examining it across five inventively themed chapters: “Choreography,” “Montage,” “Publications,” “Display” and “Appropriations.” “Choreography” looks at Mollino’s love of motion in his customizations of airplanes and racing cars and his designs for the Lutrario dance hall in Turin. The “Montage” chapter examines Mollino’s architectural photomontages and other uses of photography; “Publications” reproduces a wealth of Mollino first editions, magazine spreads and works on paper; “Display” reveals the influence of Surrealism on Mollino’s interior displays, and also includes his erotic Polaroids; and “Appropriation” looks at his photographs of interior décor.
