Summary:
In 1940, Hans Knoll founded a company in New York that soon earned a reputation for its progressive line of furniture. Florence Schust joined the firm and helped establish its interior design division, the Knoll Planning Unit. In 1947, the year after their marriage, Hans and Florence Knoll added a third division, Knoll Textiles, which brought textile production in line with a modern sensibility that used color and texture as primary design elements. In the early years, the company hired leading proponents of modern design as well as young, untried designers to create textile patterns. The division thrived in the late 1940s through 1960s and, in the following decade, adopted a more international outlook as design direction shifted to Europe. In the late 1970s and 1980s, Knoll tapped fashion designers and architects to bolster its brand. The pioneering use of new materials and a commitment to innovative design have remained Knoll's hallmarks to the present day. With essays by experts, biographies of about eighty designers, and images of textiles, drawings, furniture, and ephemera, Knoll Textiles, 1945-2010 is the first comprehensive study devoted to a leading contributor to modern textile design. Highlighting the individuals and ideas that helped shape Knoll Textiles over the years, this book brings the Knoll brand and the role of textiles in the history of design to the forefront of public attention.

Whether it's design, interiors or architecture, the client list for the Swedish firm Sandell Sandberg reads like a roster of the world's edgiest companies, including B Italia, Artimide, Ericsson, Electrolux and IKEA. This first-ever comprehensive book about the firm, established in 1995, shows off the powerful, idiosyncratic sense of form that has placed principal Thomas Sandell at the forefront of the international architecture and design scene. Sandell's playful approach characterizes projects ranging from IKEA lamps or vacation retreats that look like they were designed for modernist trolls, to housing for the underprivileged in suburban communities. A substantial book on a designer whose influence will only grow with the decades.

Summary:
Dallegret’s own life and work denies anything so predictable as a neat synopsis, but in essence his work, beginning in Paris in the late 1950s and early 60s, and later taking in New York and Montréal, absorbs everything from intricate line drawings for a series of astrological vehicles and designs for a number of machines (from those that assist in cooking a meal to others that generate literature) to the ‘A Home Is Not a House’ collaboration with the critic Reyner Banham; a drugstore/gallery in Montréal; proposals for a new Montréal Palais Metro; designs for chairs, more cars and yet more machines; a film collaborative set up to shoot a western; contributions to the Montréal 67 Expo; engraved bars of soap; subversive credit cards; ‘ironique’ villas and light installations. The book will illustrate a great many of these works and contains essays on Dallegret’s life and legacy by the historians Alessandra Ponte and Laurent Stalder. GOD & CO is published to accompany an exhibition at the Architectural Association, London.

Summary:
"La couleur nous inpire des expériences qui racontent notre style et notre philosophie de la société. Nous la travaillons comme une quatrième dimension, composante essentielle pour imaginer l'espace et la vie de demain... Quand nous avons réalisé notre première expérience en 1995, la couleur semblait dérangeante, son rôle passait au second plan. Le monochrome a été notre postulat, pour une approche radicale des volumes, des matières et des textures. Notre envie des couleurs est toujours spontanée et intuitive. Nous la spatialisons pour poétiser le présent et matérialiser le futur" "Colour is the catalyst in our experimental approach to style and society. We explore it like a fourth dimension and it is an essential part of the way we imagine space and things to come. When we carried out our first experience in 1995, colour seemed disturbing and took a secondary role. Monochrome was our main statement in a radical approach to volumes, materials and textures. Our desire for colour is still spontaneous and intuitive. We spatialise it to enhance the present and shape the future" - Olivier Guillemin & Olivier Védrine
