Summary:
Anni Albers (1899–1994) has long been revered as a trailblazing weaver, textile designer, and visual artist; she also was an insightful and eloquent writer, and her books On Designing and On Weaving are canonical writings in design history. "Anni Albers: Constructing textiles" explores the ideas of materiality, construction, and architecture across her body of work, establishing her legacy as a thinker, theoretician, and innovator. The book’s essays include essential writings by Albers herself on the making and meaning of textiles, as well as new pieces by Glenn Adamson on her relationship to architecture, Karis Medina on the material and technique of her weavings, Amy Jean Porter on her writing, and Jeffrey Saletnik on East Asian influences in Albers’s work and thinking. Among the book’s hundreds of beautifully reproduced images are works held in private collections that have never before been published. An essential volume in the literature about modernism, this book reinforces Albers’s position as a leading figure in twentieth-century art.

Summary:
"A lot of work" is a new monograph dedicated to the work of the restlessly inventive Belgian design studio Muller Van Severen. Shaped by 15 years of seminal practice, it is the first to present Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen both together and as individual artists, charting the energies of their solo trajectories alongside their shared design language. Approaching the monograph as a collage, the book traces what has unfolded over the past decade and a half, what preceded it, and what may yet come—shaped, as the title suggests, by a lot of work. Raw and ruminative in structure, it draws from their private and public archives to allow "images to speak through adjacency rather than explanation," as Hannes explains in his opening text. The result "feels less like a retrospective and more like a pause," he writes—"A breath."

Summary:
"Melancholy Wedgwood" traces the multiple strands in the life of the ceramic entrepreneur Josiah Wedgwood (1730–1795) to propose an alternative view of eighteenth-century England's tenuous relationship to our own lives and times, amid the ruins of late-capitalist modernity. Through intimate vignettes and essays, and in writing at turns funny, sharp, and pensive, Iris Moon chips away at the mythic image of Wedgwood as singular genius, business titan, and benevolent abolitionist, revealing an amorphous, fragile, and perhaps even shattered life. In the process the book goes so far as to dismantle certain entrenched social and economic assumptions, not least that the foundational myths of capitalism might not be quite so rosy after all, and instead induce a feeling that could only be characterized as blue.

Summary:
This is a conceptual journey through Joep van Lieshout’s radical thought experiments. The art and design produced by the artist’s studio go beyond aesthetic objects, becoming functional tools for an alternative way of life. The book is like an architectural blueprint for an imaginary house. Readers can wander from one room to another, where each space has specific, logical, aesthetical, surprising, and also sometimes unsettling elements. In this way the works are a test – an invitation to look past the initial shock the viewer might experience. This imaginary house does not tell us how to live, but teaches that we must consciously think about the way we organise our lives.
