Summary:
This book features the experimental pavilion projects carried by the AA's Intermediate Unit 2 over the past six years. Over the past six years the students of the Architectural Association's Intermediate Unit 2 have designed and built a series of experimental pavilions. Structured to follow a year in the life of the unit, this book presents the processes of the pavilions' design and production, from concept ideas to workshop fabrication. Essays by the unit's tutors, Charles Walker and Martin Self, explain the ambitions and pedagogic basis of the programme, rooted in the idea of experiential learning. Through the voices of students, tutors and anonymous critics, both the educational validity of this innovative design-build programme and its architectural output is explored.

Summary:
This small volume accompanies the exhibition of the same name celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Regional Funds for Contemporary Art at the FRAC Centre in Orléans. Conceived by architect Bernard Tschumi as a series of manifestoes on the city and the most radical post-war, contemporary architecture, it gathers together notable and lesser-known artists and architects who at some point have made a proclamation – a vision of the city and of architecture – in an attempt to illustrate the process of this new and experimental discourse. In this way, the book narrates the logical assertion that architecture, before becoming forms, is about ideas.

The Marxist-Leninist Enver Hoxha ruled Albania with an iron fist from 1945 until his death in 1985. He is credited with the construction of 750,000 bunkers which still dot the Albanian landscape today. The most important question for the future of these bunkers is : will these hollow concrete mushrooms, looming across the lanscape like giant tortoises, ever be used?

Summary:
Temporary buildings can be both interim solutions that no longer serve a purpose at a specific point in time, or projects constructed for special occasions. In all instances, they take possession of a location for a certain time, giving it a new meaning and quality. Architects who create temporary architecture have to plan the disappearance of their work from the outset. The ephemeral nature of this architecture allows architects to focus in a very specific and precise way on what is essential and make very pointed architectural statements.
