Summary:
Artist and fashion designer Cinzia Ruggeri (1942–2019) made her artistic research a tool for inquiry into the functional and semantic properties of the object and the architectural and social dimension of the body, according to an original and nonconformist perspective enriched by irony and oneirism. This is the first monograph on this unconventional figure who moved across disciplines with absolute freedom. Her life and versatile practice were driven by the desire to redefine the formal and functional status of elements of everyday life, from apparel to accessories, from furnishings to lighting. Ruggeri created imaginative, provocative, elegant, and never predictable worlds.

Amid sequins and longing, celebrities and aspirants flocked to the heart of chic, and Paris became a hothouse of reverly, intrigue, and searing ambition. At the center of it all were fashion's most beloved luminaries, Yves Saint Laurent, the reclusive enfant terrible, and Karl Lagerfeld, the flamboyant freelancer with a talent for reinvention, and they divided Paris into two fabulous halves. Their enduring rivalry is chronicled in this dazzling exposé of an era: of social ambitions, shared obsessions, and the mesmerizing quest for beauty.

Summary:
Inspired by interest in the striking dress codes of various social groups, Rotterdam-based photographer Ari Versluis and stylist Ellie Uyttenbroek have systematically documented numerous identities. They call their series ’Exactitudes’: a contraction of ’exact’ and ’attitude’. By registering their subjects in an identical framework they provide an almost scientific record of people’s attempts to distinguish themselves from others by assuming a group identity. The apparent contradiction between individuality and uniformity is taken to such extremes that the artistic aspect dominates the purely documentary element. Rotterdam’s heterogeneous street scene remains a major source of inspiration for them, although for this new edition they have also visited Praia (Cabo Verde), New York and Bordeaux.

Summary:
In this fascinating and unique book, Alexandru Balasescu explores questions of Islamic dress, modernity and public space in Paris and Tehran. How are we to understand the exclusion of the Islamic dress from public space in France if, at the same time, trendy French women and wealthy Middle Eastern tourists shop for designer-label hijab, apparently accepting its conversion into a (depoliticited, deracinated) commodity? And how are we to understand the creation of "designer label" Islamic dress, when fashionable women recast the meanings and practices associated with veiling, understood by Western observers to be the mark of their subordination to a religious regime, into couture?
