Summary:
Art criticism has been said to be in crisis for decades – and one of its mainstays, the review, would seem to be in no better shape. The number of exhibition reviews in the pages of national daily papers has been in continuous decline, and the material conditions that make the articulation of well-founded criticism possible are deteriorating. Moreover, at least in the domain of visual art, critics seem to be losing the taste for judgment: more and more often, solidly reasoned objections have ceded ground to affirmative description. This issue of ''TEXTE ZUR KUNST'' responds to the situation by making the case for the review and shedding light on its shifting circumstances

Multihyphenation refers to alternate modes of creative production: "collab" culture, "brand X brand" projects, and multiple or even opaque styles of attribution and ownership among individuals, studios, and practices. For them, the body of work they produce matters more than maintaining a singular creative identity as an individual designer, architect, artist, etc. But is this practice actually new? Architects, curators, fashion designers, scholars, and artists were invited to question the theme from different vantage points. A highlight of the issue is a visual folio featuring more than 40 multihyphenated works that exemplify complex strategies for navigating creative practice today.

Mario Carpo considers the generative capacity of precedents in AI; Ian Erickson, the form-finding potential of a digital breeze; and Phillip Denny, the details of a drawing by Michelle JaJa Chang.
