Summary:

Summary:
To continue to develop existing building types and do so in an intelligent way is one of the crucial tasks in the field of residential building. For the success of the individual design as well as for ensuring that tried and tested structures can be utilized, repeated, and varied in a wide range of situations, a deeper understanding of the underlying types is indispensable. For this typology of residential buildings, the authors have developed systematic new presentations of the most innovative types. Each individual volume lays out the possibilities for using and transforming a particular form of residential structure. The third volume deals with the types of the townhouse. It will address the following topics among others: single- versus multistory construction, density, privacy versus publicity, and the connection of living and working. Within each type, variants are distinguished according to how they organize space, their number of floors, etc. The range of possible solutions is presented in uniform ground plans newly drawn to scale.

Summary:
Conceived in the 1960s, Walt Disney's original plans for his Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT) outlined a utopian laboratory for domestic technology, where families would live, work, and play in an integrated environment. Like many of his contemporaries, Disney imagined homes that would attend to their inhabitants' every need, and he regarded the home as a site of unending technological progress. This fixation on "space-age" technology, with its promise of domestic bliss, marked an important mid-twentieth-century shift in understandings of the American home. In A Small World, Davin Heckman considers how domestic technologies that free people to enjoy leisure time in the home have come to be understood as necessary parts of everyday life.

This is a collection of 19 interesting examples demonstrating countless architectural solutions available for houses with minimal space. Owing to their proportions - often related to the budget - minimal houses tend to be based on a light structural system, generally based on wooden frames or thin metal sections, which also make the building easy to construct on isolated or inaccessible plots of land. These homes can hide ingenious elements inside, such as folding tables, hanging beds, translucent panels, and highly efficient storage areas. This collection of 19 new projects presents practical, contemporary examples that demonstrate the countless architectural solutions available for houses with minimal space.
