Summary:
This book provides the first complete documentation of Benjamin Katz’s Berlin Havelhöhe photographs. Today the Clinic for Anthroposophical Medicine, Berlin Havelhöhe was in 1960 the hospital where Katz stayed while ill with tuberculosis. During the year and a half he was there, Katz produced an extensive collection of photographs, which comprised his beginnings as a photographer and his interest in the photography of the modern age, as well as forms an artistic documentation of the location itself. The hospital in Berlin Havelhöhe took over the building in the 1950s, but it had originally been erected as the National Socialist State Academy for Aviation, training the pilots who attacked Guernica in 1934 as part of the Condor Legion. When it became a hospital, it cared for patients from all walks of society—both Nazis and those they persecuted.

Summary:
Dora Maar (born Henriette Théodora Markovitch, 1907–1997) was active at the height of Surrealism in France. She was recognized as a key member of the movement and maintained professional relationships with many of its prominent figures, such as André Breton, Brassaï, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Man Ray. However, her standing as the one-time muse and mistress of Pablo Picasso—his famous “Weeping Woman”— has long eclipsed her creative output and minimized her influence. Illustrated with 240 key works showcasing Maar’s inimitable acumen as a photographer, this book examines the full arc of her career for the very first time. Subjects include her innovative commercial and fashion photography, approach to the nude and eroticism, engagement with political groups, interest in socially concerned photography, affiliation with the Surrealist movement, and hitherto unknown work from her reclusive late career, providing a dynamic and multifaceted examination of an important artist.

While celebrating the wide variety of shapes and sizes that nature and human cultivation have brought us, Schudel is no less fascinated by the process of decay. As the flowers fade, wilt, and wither, she transforms them under water into images of strange, compelling beauty, combining their delicate beauty with a stirring memento mori.

It covers all of Meyerowitz’s great projects: his work inspired by the artist Morandi, his work on trees, his exclusive coverage of Ground Zero, his trips in the footsteps of Robert Frank across the US, his experiments comparing colour and black and white pictures, and of course his iconic street photography work.

Summary:
In "Domesticated Land" Susan Lipper navigates an apocalyptic world poised between inertia and the end of mankind, somewhere in the California desert. Uncannily tranquil, the landscape offers a trans-historical litany of monuments, icons and signs from which the author and protagonist constructs a narrative interspersed with the words of historic and contemporary women. Putting female subjectivity into relief, Lipper obfuscates the romantic notion of the desert as a land of freedom and self-enlightenment. A lone snake, a dilapidated home, the remains of a cinematic stage set, the head of a fallen woman, a military base, barbed wire: such facts create ?ction, and one that serves as an unnerving political admonition concerning the current state of America.
