Summary:
Ron Jude’s new book, Lick Creek Line , extends and amplifies his ongoing fascination with the vagaries of photographic empiricism, and the gray area between documentation and fiction. In a sequential narrative punctuated by contrasting moments of violence and beauty, Jude follows the rambling journey of a fur trapper, methodically checking his trap line in a remote area of Idaho in the Western United States. Through converging pictures of landscapes, architecture, an encroaching resort community, and the solitary, secretive process of trapping pine marten for their pelts, Lick Creek Line underscores the murky and culturally arbitrary nature of moral critique.

Arnold Zageris captures the images using a traditional large format 4x5 view camera, technology that is unsurpassed for landscape photography in this digital age. The method allows for fine details and subtle nuances of form and texture to emerge. Although the colors and contrasts may appear enhanced, these works have no special filters or treatments. Zageris states his commitment is “to search and find the quality of light that can inspire the imagination.” His combination of traditional technique and methodical patience lends him the ability to show us a world we may not see otherwise.

Summary:
Metabolism Trip is a collection of photographs and short stories of Charlie Koolhaas’ journey along many of the remaining buildings of the Metabolist Movement. In the late 1950s a small group of young Japanese architects and designers joined forces under the title of "Metabolism". Their visions for cities of the future inhabited by a mass society were characterized by large scale structures. Charlie Koolhaas, a Dutch photographer and editor of UNIT magazine, traveled across Japan in 2009 to photograph how these architectural icons have survived and aged. What do their founding fathers and their inhabitants think of these buildings now? What Koolhaas found were triumphant and at times eerie constructions that had taken on a life of their own.
