Summary:
Since the early 1990s, the German photographer and biologist Jochen Lempert (born 1958) has used analogue, black-and-white photography to convey his gently reverential vision of nature and sentience--whether that of animals, plants or humans. Often grainy, sometimes verging on abstraction, and sometimes focusing minutely on the activity of some tiny creature, his photographs exude a simple pleasure in fleeting tranquility. Jochen Lembert: Phenotype reproduces 450 of his works, most of them arranged in groups and sequences, from more than 20 years of artistic production.

Summary:
Working at the intersection of art and environmental politics, photographer Christoph Gielen specializes in conducting photographic aerial studies of infrastructure in its relation to land use. In Ciphers, Gielen uses a triptych format to present this sprawl as car culture phenomenon and a way of life--encouraging viewers to question both the nature of the developed community and the ramifications of contemporary building trends. These pictures invoke an era of carefree risk-taking, of "bigger is better," when investing in home ownership and commercial real estate were still standard practices and neither distance from workplace nor gasoline prices much mattered in determining the locations of new construction.

Petrochemical America offers an in-depth analysis of the causes of sustained environmental abuse along the largest river system in North America. It combines Richard Misrach’s photographs of Louisiana’s “Chemical Corridor” with landscape architect Kate Orff’s “Ecological Atlas”. Summary:
Beginning with his studies at the photographic department of the School of Arts and Crafts in Bratislava, this book shows how, in the mid-1970s, Podstrasky began to work as freelancer and his photos appeared in newspapers and magazines. He rarely participated in the activities of the photographic community and the whole of his work remained practically unknown to the expert and general public and only recently did it become obvious that he was one of few Slovak photographers to succeed in fully capturing the other face of life during “real socialism”—the final phase of development of the communist system before its ultimate decline. This biography details Podstrasky’s ability to record gloominess, helplessness, and personal and social resignation and stands as a testament to the artist’s important place in the history of photography.

Summary:
Examining 20 years’ worth of the work of architect Paola Iacucci, who has spent a career between New York and Italy, this document is a record of the often heterogeneous experience of architecture. Iacucci’s projects, drawings, models, buildings, and writings offer a deep and sharp sensibility and insight into contemporary architecture as they unfold two different perspectives: those of the East and the West. The two parts of this consideration—the Book of the East and the Book of the West—investigate the subtle relation between the concepts of the void and the solid or material in architecture in two very different worlds. An additional, 100-page booklet with architectural drawings is also included.
