‘'La Nonpareille'’ expands on Batia Suter’s site-specific installation at TU Delft, in which she engaged with an archive of glass slides from its library. Originally used between 1900 and 1960 for lectures in Mechanical Technology, these visibly worn plates document machines, industrial materials, and production processes during a period of increasing mechanisation. Suter reworks the material into a visual reflection on the entanglement of humans and machines – and how technology reshapes perception, labour, and everyday life. Many compositions in the book consist of layered montages, where multiple images are overlaid to create new, morphed forms and associations.

Summary:
"Richard Misrach: Cargo" presents the acclaimed photographer’s sublime meditation on the often-unseen patterns of global trade and commerce. In 2021, on the heels of the COVID-19 pandemic, which, at its height, seemed to nearly halt the networks of international trade, Misrach began taking thousands of photographs of cargo ships as they moved to and from the Port of Oakland, California. In these monumental seascapes, cargo ships appear frozen in time—diminutive but stalwart—within an expansive, richly colored confluence of sea, sky, and atmosphere. Eerie, sparse, and undeniably beautiful, Misrach’s images abstractly trace multiple histories: the recent collapse and slow recovery of these seafaring trade routes, the confrontation of the human and natural environment in an era of climate disaster, and a rich lineage of maritime art.

Summary:
Since his first visit to Japan in 1987, British photographer Michael Kenna (born 1953) has returned time and again to capture Asia's landscapes. The poetic power of Kenna's photographs and their ability to extract emotion from the landscape—from the dignity of a tree or a rock—has led some commentators to describe them as visual haikus. "Silver Haikus" provides a thematic retrospective of his work in Asia over the last 40 years. It explores the connection between his aesthetic and Asian art through formal dialogues between his photographs and works from the Chinese, Korean and Japanese collections of the Musée Guimet. More specifically, this book observes the influence of Asian arts in Kenna's work: the choice of monochrome, the economy of means, the use of emptiness and the desire to suggest rather than describe evoke the ink paintings of Chinese scholars and Japanese Zen monks.

Summary:
Dedicated to one of the great figures of contemporary photography, this selection of over 90 images explores the most significant moments in the career of Joel Meyerowitz (born 1938), from his early images of the 1960s to his more recent work. It is divided into thematic chapters analyzing Meyerowitz's photographic series, from his evocative still lifes to the tragedy of 9/11; his sociological research which helped redefine the concept of street photography; and his conceptually provocative images reflecting American individualism during the Vietnam War. Meyerowitz's photography favors precise humanistic insight. With his calm and methodical reading of our reality, he reminds us of how photography can be a tool for reflection on the experiences of both the individual and society—a way of appreciating the present in all its aspects.

Summary:
Between 1948 and 2016, David Goldblatt returned periodically to Fietas, a suburb west of Johannesburg's city centre, to photograph the impact of punitive segregation and ethnic cleansing wrought by apartheid legislation on its residents and landscape. Moved by the life force of the predominantly Indian community's families, shopkeepers, and small business owners, Goldblatt said attempted to grasp something of their life and what they had built. The resulting photographs, collected and published here for the first time, form a vivid social document of Fietas before, during, and after its destruction under the Group Areas Act. Earlier images of storefronts and domestic interiors contrast poignantly with those of their demolition from the late 1970s onwards. Dignified portraits of traders in their stores capture their determined efforts to build a life for their families. Interviews with past and present Fietas residents close the book, recalling the testimonials of Goldblatt's subjects in The Transported of Kwandebele and Ex-Offenders at the Scene of Crime.

Summary:

Summary:
In his debut monograph, "Luoghi", Nicola Buonomo deepens his engagement with nine familiar places. Ranging from his grandmother's backyard to a sand production facility nearby, these are all within a few kilometers of Nicola’s home in Northern Sicily, Italy. The photographs display a subtly dissonant relationship between man-made infrastructure and the natural world. Nicola first defined a clear perimeter for each area, outside of which he could not photograph. In creating these limitations, he ambitiously sought to exhaust most of the possibilities of his gaze within them- prompting a repetitive style of shooting. Sometimes photographing a single subject many times, Nicola forced himself to find new relationships with what he already knew well. In this attempt to enrich his relationship with the familiar, Nicola’s process became synonymous with the final work.

Summary:
Whether or not you celebrated Christmas at some point during the last 70 years, you have no doubt encountered many of the scenes shown here in Lee Friedlander's eclectic black-and-white documentation of the holiday season across America. From city sidewalks to cookie-cutter suburbs, Friedlander captures it all: main street store window displays; plastic nativities on snow-covered lawns; inflatable snowglobes and Santa Clauses; questionable St. Nicholas–themed lingerie; oversize or underwhelming Christmas trees; and houses so covered in string lights as to demand nothing short of a miracle from the local power grid. As in all of his work, Friedlander's images of Christmas reflect his own version of the holiday. Is Christmas in America a religious celebration? A commercial precept? A misunderstanding? An indulgent blasphemy? Or all of the above? The only certain thing is that December 25 has provided an opportunity for the people's photographer to hold up a mirror to a flawed, inventive, preoccupied and wonderful society.
