Summary:
Photographic monograph by Cristian Ordóñez. The pictures of this book were taken between years 2009 and 2017. Eight years in which the artist investigates the connection to place in a close relationship and immersion to the land. People, places and traces discovered in various locations of Chile (where the artist is originally from), Canada (his new home) and the United States. Cristian explores his surroundings and boundaries to find details that provide memories to a place that still feels new to him. He often put myself in situations where he wanders alone through unknown places, without any specific plan in mind - exploring, improvising and letting himself drift and flow to record elements that drive his attention, discovering cultures and local information that manifests along the way as evidence, providing a representation of the area and somehow activating memories of other places he has lived in.

Summary:
This photo series is Kenji Toma's homage to the botanical illustrations in « Choix Des Plus Belles Fleurs » by Pierre-Joseph Redouté, one of the most well-regarded flower encyclopedias of the nineteenth century. Back when color photography did not exist, these images were illustrated with the purpose of replicating the botanic subject as realistically as possible. Toma is interested in doing the exact opposite with the photographic medium which, realistic by nature, can also be used to make a subject look unreal and artificial. The result is a contemporary revival of the concept of the botanical encyclopedia.

Taking this disclaimer as the title, this meditative book by Kristina Jurotschkin brings together images, made in various places in Europe over numerous years, from her photographic archive. The result is a possible archive of the future of our present, or an archaeological survey anticipated for the future. Examining the construction of our social reality, Jurotschkin presents alienating views of everyday spaces.

Summary:
This book features images by American photographer William Wylie (b. 1957) taken over the course of five years. The photographs reanimate the ancient city of Pompeii, showing the ongoing cycles of deterioration and preservation that mark it as a living landscape. Wylie captures Pompeii’s former grandeur, including its terracotta reliefs and wall paintings, while also drawing attention to the signs of an active excavation site, from plaster casts in glass cases to ceramic fragments in storage facilities. His elegant compositions and command of light and shadow highlight how natural phenomena, pollution, and human intervention are continually reshaping the city. People, however, are notably absent in the photographs. Wylie beautifully documents Pompeii’s present by engaging with the tenuous relationship that the archaeological site maintains with the past.

Summary:
Andreas Gursky has been widely celebrated for his monumental, extraordinarily detailed pictures, often exploring contemporary global themes. This comprehensive book takes a fresh look at the artist’s iconic images from the past four decades. In a landmark conversation between two of the most significant figures in contemporary photography, Gursky talks to Jeff Wall about the sources for his photographic vision, while an essay by Hayward Gallery director Ralph Rugoff explores important but often neglected areas of the artist’s work. Essays by art historian Gerald Schröder and writer-curator Brian Sholis provide new insight into key pictures, and artist Katharina Fritsch offers personal snapshots of her Düsseldorf colleague, creating a portrait of the artist in the round. Presenting the artist’s best-known works—including “Paris, Montparnasse” (1993), “99 Cent” (2001) and “Chicago Board of Trade III” (2009)—as well as new, previously unpublished photographs, this is an indispensable survey of 40 years of work from one of the world’s most influential artists.

Summary:
Bogdan Bogdanovic (1922–2010) was a Yugoslav architect, theorist, professor and a one-time mayor of Belgrade. His idiosyncratic memorials to the victims and heroes of World War II, scattered around the former Yugoslavia, continue to attract attention today, more than 25 years after the country’s collapse. The monuments, cemeteries, mausoleums, memorial parks, necropolises, cenotaphs and other sites of memory Bogdanovic designed between the early 1950s and late 1970s occupy a unique place in the history of modern architecture, redrawing the boundaries between architecture, landscape and sculpture in varied and unexpected ways. This book presents Bogdanovic’s built oeuvre through his own eyes, in a selection of nearly 50 color photographs of his memorials, which the architect took soon after the completion of each project.
