Summary:
This illustrated book examines a series of color photographs by Los Angeles- based artist James Welling, who turned to the painter Andrew Wyeth for inspiration. As a conceptual artist who is deeply interested in the genesis of representation, Welling began this series of photographs as an examination of Andrew Wyeth's influence on his own work, from Welling's earliest watercolors in the 1960s through his recent photographs. Shot on location in Pennsylvania and Maine-in the same areas where Wyeth painted throughout his life--this major series includes photographs from 2010 through 2014. In addition to including never-before-seen works from the completed Wyeth series, the book explores the mechanisms of influence of one artist upon another- even across media--ranging from subconscious borrowings to more direct appropriations.

Summary:
Germaine Krull (1897–1985) was a member of the generation that revolutionised the practice of photography in the 1920s, and the originality of her work is the reflection of a very distinctive temperament. After early years marked by political involvement in the Spartacist uprising in Munich and Berlin and studio photography notable for the deep erotic ambiguity of her female nudes, she attained renown in the late 1920s, largely for the work published in the portfolio Métal (1928). With its low-angle shots of cranes and bridges and details of iron structures, it was a seminal statement of the New Vision aesthetic in France.

Summary:

Summary:
In the city of Tokyo, a building stands as an anachronism in relation to the surrounding urban landscape. The building in question is the Nakagin Capsule Tower designed by Kisho Kurokawa (1934 – 2007), one of the founders of an influential architectural movement in the 1960s called Metabolism. The movement’s aim was to formulate flexible designs that facilitate continual growth and renewal of architecture. As the first capsule apartment in history constructed for everyday use, the Nakagin Capsule Tower is considered the most ambitious attempt in implementing the principles of Metabolism. Kurokawa attached the building with 140 removable capsules to promote modifications to the structure over time, theoretically improving its capacity to adjust to the rapidly changing conditions of the post-industrial society. When the building first opened in March of 1972, it was advertised in the media to signal “the dawn of the capsule age.” At the time, Kurokawa had additional capsule projects planned in the coming years and predicted the mass production of these living unit. Noritaka Minami has been photographing the Nakagin Capsule Tower in Tokyo for the past four years.

Summary:
The Romanian-born Canadian artist is well known for his richly-coloured, large-scale landscape paintings but less so for his photography. This publication fills that gap by featuring a selection of never before seen photographic work spanning four decades. Much like his paintings, autobiography is at the core of Krausz’s photographs in that they document the journeys of a relentless traveler. Both his photographs and paintings project entrancing worlds where the narrative of embattled and embittered histories are implied but never named.
