Over the course of a decade, French photographer Jean-Luc Bertini traveled the length and breadth of the United States, creating portraits of the unique circumstance of isolation fostered by the country’s geographic circumstances and its espousal of an individualist ethos. Bertini casts his subjects against the vast backdrops of the country, exploring all the nuances of isolation, from solitude to loneliness. This perspective produces an usual and fresh take on America as a nation.

A poetic photographic record of the European migrant crisis, between France, Italy, Spain and Tunisia. Bridging documentary photography and lyrical prose, this volume includes pictures by French photographer Jean-Michel André (born 1976) and French Congolese author Wilfried N’Sondé (born 1968), which together probe the tragedies of displacement and exile for migrants across the Mediterranean region today.

Summary:
'Alpine signals'' is an unusual portrait of the Alps, based on twentysix cell towers in the Engadin, a high valley in the south east part of Switzerland. The artist Thomas Kneubühler challenges the romantic image of the Alps with the non-lieux of the mountain world, and goes to places that are usually not a destination. ''Alpine signals'' touches on important issues, such as our relationship with nature and landscape asking: how much data do we need, even in the remote mountain world? The photographs are accompanied by two texts. The author Romana Ganzoni, who lives in the Engadin, invites us on a breathtaking antenna hike, and debunks a number of Alpine clichés in the process. The Canadian writer Rebecca Duclos visits the Alps in a dream. In her hybrid text, she reflects on the paradox of images and encounters which are at once sublime and banal.

‘After New York Living Rooms and Paris Living Rooms, voilà: Berlin Living Rooms, the third and final photographic instalment in the trilogy. It is the culmination of a project that started in 1995 when Tina Brown, then the editor-in-chief of the New Yorker magazine, commissioned me an essay. The idea was to photograph writers’ rooms without the writers present. I decided it would be more revealing and, above all, more exciting to feature the living rooms of a varied mix of prominent New Yorkers. Little did I know that this essay, which awoke a keen interest when it appeared in an October 1995 issue of the New Yorker, would take me on a photographic journey that would produce three books and that ends today in 2017!’ —Dominique Nabokov
