En Occident, tout particulièrement, le processus psychique associé à « faire son deuil » est assumé à l’abri des regards. Et parce que la mort implique une douleur qui demeure souvent du côté de l’indicible, l’expression artistique semble une façon de manifester la souffrance. Ce dossier de la revue ESPACE explore diverses façons qu’ont les artistes de rendre compte de cette douleur. En quoi l’art actuel est-il en mesure de témoigner le fait que le deuil est une pratique qui imprègne les réalités sociales et émotionnelles de groupes d’individus? L’art peut-il nous réapprendre à célébrer le deuil?
