Summary:
Designers, graphic artists, architects, and urban planners are now confronted with the tasks of signage, route management, and information and orientation systems. With this book they can profit from a broad view of phenomena related to disorientation-disorientation in scientific disciplines, in our environments, and in expressive presentations. On the one hand, this should make it possible for designers to benefit from attitudes to the topic derived from experience and to move from confusion to visual reflection. On the other, it will enable scholarly disciplines to explore the formation of categories that can move things forward. This visual study is accompanied by heterogeneous brief texts. Images and texts are thus placed in a relationship of mutual reflections rather than confronted with one another in a commentary or illustration.

Ruedi Baur has chosen seven concepts to describe his conceptual approach: anticipate, question, inscribe, perplex, orient, differentiate, and translate. They serve as the structure of his book and the basis for seven dialogues between him and conversation partners from various disciplines. The practical implementation of these concepts is presented using projects from his Integral studio in Zurich und Paris. Previously unpublished new projects are integrated thematically into the evolution of Baur’s oeuvre. This book captures the conceptual and design constants of, and the fascination in, the work of Ruedi Baur. Summary:
Thomas E. Rinaldi captures the brilliant glow of surviving early- and mid-twentieth-century neon signs, those iconic elements of the cityscape now in danger of disappearing. This visual tour features two hundred signs, identified by location, with information on their manufacture, date of creation, and the businesses that commissioned them. In a generously illustrated introduction, drawing on documents including rare period trade publications, Rinaldi recounts the development of signage and the technological evolution of neon and examines its role in the streets of New York, in America's cultural identity, and in our collective consciousness. New Yorkers and visitors to the city, neon-sign enthusiasts, and those interested in signs and historic advertising generally, as well as design professionals, serious historians, and casual students of the city, will want this colorful book, which comes at a critical moment when the disappearance of the original signs has inspired a growing interest in neon.

Summary:
Repurposing the sad, comical and seemingly trivial minutiae of everyday life into pie charts, flow charts and other forms of visual data sorting, New York-based artist Andrew Kuo transforms the idlest of days into a witty analysis in color and pattern. The charm of these works lies not only in their balance of what might be called "cool content in geek form," but also in the criteria and gradations they measure. Kuo's obsessive charts, which resemble Op art, Concrete art or the abstractions of Josef Albers have reached a wide audience through his music reviews for The New York Times, as well as through numerous solo shows over the past ten years. What Me Worry adopts Mad magazine's slogan to gently poke fun at the artist's compulsive record-keeping, and compiles a range of charts, some of which are also made into colorful sculptures, alongside figurative paintings, diary musings and a series of recipes.
