Almost 50 years after the group’s establishment, their designs are gathered for the first time in this volume, which contextualizes the firm’s works with that of contemporary artists, including Danai Anesiadou, Alexandra Bachzetsis, Ila Beka and Louise Lemoine, Pablo Bronstein and Stefano Graziani, among many others. This catalogue compiles Superstudio’s documents—including images, collages, critical writings and storyboards—drawn from the archive, and includes critical contributions from curators Andreas Angelidakis, Vittorio Pizzigoni and Valer Scelsi. Super Superstudio is an important tribute to an assault on modernism, that, as the volume reveals, remained and remains relevant for generations to come.

Summary:
The avant-garde Italian architecture collective Superstudio was founded in 1966 by Adolfo Natalini (1941–2020) and Cristiano Toraldo di Francia (1941–2019), and quickly leaped to the forefront of the 1960s radical architecture movement alongside the likes of Archigram and Haus-Rucker-Co. Through their architectural projects (housing, industrial buildings, banks, interiors), design objects, photocollages, drawings, texts, installations, models, films and exhibitions, Superstudio found brilliant and highly inventive ways in which to inhabit a world transformed by capitalist forces and technological evolutions. This slipcased, 400-page volume explores their oeuvre through the lens of ''migrations'' (migrazioni). Borrowed from Superstudio’s vocabulary, this term serves as a conceptual and poetic key to the group’s architecture and their works in all mediums.

Summary:
Founded in Florence in 1966, Superstudio challenged the modernist orthodoxy that architecture and technological advances could improve the world by creating alternative visions of the future in photo-montages, sketches, collages and films. The five members of Superstudio: Cristiano Toraldo di Francia, Gian Piero Frassinelli, Alessandro Magris, Roberto Magris and Adolfo Natalini-were equally pessimistic about politics and its ability to solve mounting social, cultural and environmental problems. This Fall 2003 New York exhibition catalogue, drawn from Superstudio's archive and curated in collaboration with members of the group, will revisit its work and trace its influence on subsequent generations of architects. "Superstudio: Life without Objects" collects nearly 200 of the group's most important images, collages, storyboards and critical writings. White monuments crossing over entire landscapes and cities, vast grid groundplanes spreading over infinite beaches populated by wandering hippies: these are some of the more evocative images that consolidated their fame as vanguard architects. In 1972, MoMA invited them to participate in one of the largest exhibitions in its history, built around Italian design and architecture. With essays from Peter Lang and William Menking, the book is designed to provide the reader with the most detailed account of this avant-garde design group and their lively assault on modernism.

Summary:
The recent collaboration between Gian Piero Frassinelli – founder of the Florentine collective Superstudio – and 2A+P/A an architectural practice based in Rome – relaunched a long-established, yet generally overlooked, debate on the relationship between architecture and anthropology. Moving away from a historical or scientific perspective to embrace the point of view of the project, the exhibition Savage Architecture genealogically reconstructs the ethos of such collaboration in four episodes. The outcome is a journey through the imaginative potential of the anthropological gaze in constructing both meaning and a method for the architectural project as an alternative to the dominant belief in the economic and technological reasons.

Summary:
The Fundamental Acts propose a collective reformulation of five great themes of the human existence – Life, Education, Ceremony, Love and Death. They were conceived by Superstudio as a series of films centered on the relationship between architecture and the acts of human life. The films were sketched in storyboard format and later published as a series of documents on the pages of Casabella magazine. The Fundamental Acts contain the possibility of reintroducing a discourse on the relationship between architecture and ritual. They have been (re)produced by a group of international contributors and the documents submitted have been collected in this book.
