Summary:
Published to accompany the first US museum exhibition of the work of German-born Grete Stern and Argentinean Horacio Coppola, From Bauhaus to Buenos Aires explores the individual accomplishments and parallel developments of two of the foremost practitioners of avant-garde photography in Europe and Latin America. The book traces their artistic development from the late 1920s, when Stern established a pioneering commercial studio, ringl + pit, with her friend Ellen (Rosenberg) Auerbach, and Coppola began groundbreaking experimentations with photography in his native Argentina, to their joint studies at the Bauhaus and travels through Europe in the early 1930s, through the mid-1950s, by which time they had firmly established the foundations of modern photography in Buenos Aires.

Summary:
The Bauhaus, as we know it, never truly existed. Instead, it is a construct of clichés, interpretations, and ideological appropriations. While celebrated as the most important art school of modernity, it also reflected the decline of art and architecture under capitalism. Bauhaus Clouds takes these contradictions as a point of departure. It explores how new narratives, centered on architectural archives, shape Bauhaus debates. At the same time, it examines how such narratives influence both architectural culture and society’s broader relationship with building.

Summary:
Global warming and concerns about sustainability recently have pushed ecological design to the forefront of architectural study and debate. By exploring key moments of inspiration between designers and ecologists from the Bauhaus projects of the interwar period to the eco-arks of the 1980s, Anker traces the historical intersection of architecture and ecological science and assesses how both remain intertwined philosophically and pragmatically within the still-evolving field of ecological design. Illuminating important connections between theories about the relationship between humans and the built environment, Anker's provocative study provides new insight into a critical period in the evolution of environmental awareness.

Summary:
This book is not a dictionary, though it tells you all you need know about everything from Authenticity to Zips. It's not an autobiography, though it does offer a revealing and highly personal inside view of contemporary culture. It's an essential tool kit for understanding the world around us. It's about what makes a Warhol a genuine fake; the creation of national identities; the mania to collect. It's also about the city as seen from the rear view mirror of Grand Theft Auto V; digital ornament and why we value imperfection. It's about drinking a bruisingly dry martini in Adolf Loo's American bar in Vienna, and about Hitchcock's film sets. It's about the modern world of fashion, technology, design and art.
