Summary:
"The Continuous Monument", developed by the Italian collective Superstudio during summer 1969, is one of the most known visionary projects within the history of architecture. In sketchbooks Number 11 and 12, dated over a few months between May and November 1969, much of the story of the Continuous Monument emerges – as it were, fully-fledged – from its first conception as a belt around Florence, and its later ambitious circumnavigation of the globe, to its diffident public manifestation – at the scale of a gallery – for the first of the two exhibitions in Graz in 1969. The drawings became the basis of the now better-known Superstudio collages.

Summary:
The city is where Italian radical architecture represented and experimented its theories. While the early projects remained theoretical proposals, some contributions by Archizoom, Superstudio, or Strum established an ambiguous relationship with design that became crucial after the international exhibition "Italy: the new domestic landscape", curated by Emilio Ambasz at the Museum of Modern Art New York in 1972. With the exception of Zziggurat, all participants, such as UFO, Gianni Pettena, Ugo La Pietra and 9999, chose the "piazza" - the public space - for their theoretical and practical experimentation as the adequate venue for installations and performances that used the same language as that of artists.

Summary:
The period between the 1950s and the 1970s saw the flourishing of a number of radical movements in architecture throughout Europe, producing a wide range of experimental expression. 'Cloud ’68' presents a selection of 173 graphic pieces—including lithographs, drawings, original etchings, and ephemera—that together give a sense of the diverse approaches that thrived in those years. Drawing from the personal collection of the Chilean architect Smiljan Radic, the book features works by Constant, Guy Debord, Asger Jorn, Haus-Rucker-Co, Archigram, Utopie, Superstudio, and many others. Apart from essays by Tom McDonough and Lara Schrijver Cloud ’68 contains interview fragments by the critic and curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, who talked to the key figures of these movements.

The key figures of this resurgence--a group of architects and artists including Jose Davila, Simon Dybbroe Møller, Ryan Gander, Erik Goengrich, Franka Hörnschemeyer, Victor Nieuwenhuijs & Maartje Seyferth, Tobias Putrih, Tomas Saraceno, Katrin Sigurdardottir and Tilman Wendland--are detailed in this volume through texts and images. Soviet peripheral cities are discussed for their historical precedent and contextualized through ironic responses to them by radical architecture collectives such as Superstudio and Archizoom. The volume is rounded out with texts on Le Corbusier, Oscar Niemeyer, Lucio Costa and the planned cities of Chandigarh and Brasilia, as well as a theoretical section on megastructures and megacities. This volume is published in concert with an extensive European traveling exhibition and a series of symposia and workshops.
