Project series documents Cornelia Hahn Oberlander's landscape project for the garden of Linda Yorke and Gordon Forbes in Vancouver, British Columbia. Oberlander worked on this project in the second half of the 1990s. She worked with architect André Rowland who was in charge of designing an addition to the residence designed in the late 1940s by Ned Pratt from architectural firm Sharp, Thompson, Berwick and & Pratt. The project consisted in redesigning the entire yard and adding a play area for children. Oberlander included terraces next to the addition to the house, planting beds and planters. The play area included a tower house accessible by a rope bridge, a two levels playhouse with wooden porch, a slide, a fireman pole and a ladder, and a small water canal with stone edges and activated by a hand pump. The project series contains landscape sketches, design development drawings, including a landscape concept plan, details, sections and elevations for play area and play structures, and building plans used as reference. The project is also documented through correspondence, including with clients, suppliers and consultants, concept notes by Oberlander, plant lists, financial material, research material, and photographs of the landscaping. The subseries documents the show-event base “Fabricaciones / Fabrications,” held at the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) (February 10th to April 20th, 1998). The firm identified this project as number 110. “Fabrications was an innovative exhibition on architecture conceived and produced jointly by MACBA, MoMA, the Wexner Center for the Arts and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition presented sixteen life-size architectural interventions, four at each participating center, each produced by a team of architects who explored tectonic issues in a broad sense. The four installations presented at Plaça dels Àngels – the square in front of the MACBA building – explored and modified the surfaces that defined this public space. Vicente Gualla (Barcelona) created an intervention on the façade opposite the Museum, which drew attention to the occupation and the population density that was absent from the buildings in the square. Abalos & Herreros (Madrid) acted upon the façade of the MACBA building itself, cladding and decorating its most monumental elements: the tower and the balcony. Riegler Riewe (Graz) worked with the whole of the square, inscribing a broken horizontal line along the perimeter of the public space. This project series documents new offices for entertainment company Alliance Communications in Toronto from 1995-1996. The office identified the project number as 9514. This project began with an investigation into the feasibility of renovating an existing six-storey building located at 1155 Yonge Street. The site was eventually changed to 121 Bloor Street East, where three consecutive floors of the existing high-rise were renovated for the new offices. The 16th floor contained executive offices with reception at the 15th floor and the major production department below that on the 14th. The office interiors consisted of wood veneer paneling, steel and stone. These materials, along with rubber flooring and glass panels added to the loft style of the open office space.[1] At the ground-level of the office tower, a screening room, restaurant and patio were proposed, although it is unclear if these renovations were ever completed. The project is recorded through drawings and some accompanying notes dating from 1995-1996. There are a large number of drawings for the proposed offices on Yonge Street, which include sketches, plans, elevations, sections and perspectives. These drawings are arranged before the Bloor Street materials are distinguished in the file-level descriptions. HM White Site Architects and Cornelia Hahn Oberlander collaborated on the design of the building's courtyard and rooftop gardens. The project series also includes another landscaping project for the New York Times Building Loby Garden in the first half of 2010s. Oberlander worked on this project as landscape architect with Henry M White III from HM White Site Architects firm.
