Summary:
In November 1991 Robert Frank was invited to Beirut on a commission to photograph the devastated downtown of the city following the end of the Lebanese civil war (1975-1990). Together with the work of five other photographers, his work was included in a book, Beirut City Centre (1992). Alongside his work on the commission he made many Polaroids of the city which he stored in his studio on his return home. Many years later he reconsidered the images and decided to title the work Come Again, but he left the sketch book as he had originally made it in Beirut. Come Again is a facsimile reprint of that piece. In recent years Robert Frank has worked almost exclusively with Polaroids. Come Again offers insight into the early stages of the artist’s experimentation with this medium and presents a previously unseen artist’s book. Sewn softcover with a sleeve jacket

Summary:
Through a series of essays by urban historians and designers, Two Squares examines the changing role of public space in the cities of Beirut and Istanbul as they undergo major urban redevelopment. The study of Beirut looks at the redesign of Martyrs' Square, the city's primary public space, in the aftermath of the civil war and the ongoing reconstruction efforts to rebuild the center. In Istanbul, the focus is on Sirkeci Square, one of the main intermodal hubs in the historic peninsula, as it readies itself to host a new station for the first under-Bosphorus train tunnel. The two urban transformations are taken as opportunities to examine the nature of public space in the 21st-century city, the history and evolution of public life in Beirut and Istanbul, and the possibilities of using these vital transportation nodes as opportunities for new landscape, urban, and architectural design strategies. The book also includes a series of hypothetical design projects for these two squares.

Summary:
This book is Robert Polidori’s portrait of the interiors of the now demolished Hotel Petra in Beirut, a grand icon of the city’s prewar history. The Hotel Petra was once one of the most popular hotels in Beirut, conveniently located in the city center adjacent to the Grand Theatre. After the Lebanese Civil War of 1975–90, Rafiq al-Hariri founded a holding company, Solidere, whose goal was the selective demolition and reconstruction of downtown Beirut’s urban fabric. In 1992 the Hotel Petra was set aside for later restoration, and from that moment essentially cut off from any human intervention.

Urban Toys chronicles Nadim Karam and Atelier Hapsitus’s recent creations of relief and rebellion in the city. Working out of Beirut, they make their own rules for urban art with work that is, in the words of Peter Cook, “unnervingly original.” Projects include groundbreaking work in post-war Beirut and post-Communist Prague, sculptures for the sidewalks of London and Tokyo, a poetic project in Todaiji temple in Nara, and the Sandridge Bridge project on the Yarra River for the opening of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006. Their work in the creation of “dream pockets” has grown in importance, given the increasing number of cities that have to add violence and terror to the pressures of urban life.
