Summary:
This thought-provoking volume offers a critical reevaluation of the term foreclosure: it can refer not only to a forced eviction but also to processes of exclusion - a shutting down of recognition, reflection, and debate. Through work in photography, film, video, installation, and performance, the seven artists represented in this volume (Kamal Aljafari, Yto Barrada, Tania Bruguera, Claude Closky, Harun Farocki, Allan Sekula, and David Shrigley) investigate the expanded meaning of foreclosure by reexamining the systems that have produced crises, instead of focusing on the aftermath. Four essays from a team of international curators discuss foreclosure as both a generative concept and a curatorial strategy, allowing the text itself to become a platform for critique.

Summary:
Left London is a photographic portrayal of abandoned buildings across the capital that reveals an otherwise unseen side of city life. Having explored a multitude of sites and taken over twenty thousand images, the authors were able to assemble a unique collection of photographs vividly illustrating this evocative and beautiful subject. Furthermore, as well as extensive interior and exterior shots, the book also contains various items of ephemera found in situ, which provide an additional visual narrative. Like all cities, London has an established cycle of decay and renewal, however with the forthcoming 2012 Olympics, it is currently embarking on the most ambitious redevelopment plan in its history. In light of this, Left London takes on a particularly compelling and contemporary relevance.

Summary:

Summary:
''Provisoria'' is an alternative image archive curated by Ria Verhaeghe since the early 1990s, sourced from international newspapers. Organized by keywords, dates, and thematic groupings, the archive is an effort to explore a different dimension of photojournalism. The images—often dramatic, ambiguous, or unsettling—explore the raw and layered emotional dimensions of photojournalism. With over 60,000 images, the collection spans from the striking and dramatic to the ambiguous, grotesque, and unexpectedly tender. Three sections—Human Interest, Fusion and Mindwaves—offer insight into the archive’s conceptual range. Fusion explores how we interpret images, grouping photographs by visual or symbolic qualities: featuring categories like shadows (simulacre), icons (icon), double images (glende), traces (trace), as well as those that are surreal (alien), aesthetically compelling (beauty), or energetically charged (move or MUD, for “multi-use dimension”). Mindwaves, by contrast, is structured around formal visual qualities: packaging (emballage), texture (such as Fourche, Circle, Amorf, or Geometric), and connection (connection, including subcategories like Human, Realea, and Strip). The Human Interest section (Icarus, Verticals , WWEB and Trümmerfrauen) contains images and notes focused on human emotion, empathy, and compassion.

Summary:
This book is an early vignette from Michael Kenna's far-reaching photographic odyssey. Some of these photographs, made almost forty years ago, are familiar, even famous, but many have never been seen before. They have been lying in wait, stored in a series of negative files. Normally, Kenna travels extensively and is not able to keep up with printing his extensive collection of negatives. It took the Covid pandemic and lockdown for him to search through his archives, rediscover these long-forgotten images, and print them in his darkroom. These photographs reveal a Northern England from Kenna's youth that, for the most part, no longer exists. From the Introduction. Michael Kenna was born in the small industrial town of Widnes in northwest England. The youngest of six children, Kenna grew up in a poor, working-class, Irish-Catholic family. He attended a seminary school for seven years with the intention of becoming a priest, after which he studied at the Banbury School of Art and later at the London College of Printing, before moving to the USA in the late seventies.

Summary:
''A pound of pictures'' is a stream-of-consciousness celebration of the photographic medium, bringing together an entirely new collection of work by Alec Soth made between 2018 and 2021. Depicting a sprawling array of subjects ? from Buddhist statues and birdwatchers to sun-seekers and busts of Abe Lincoln- this book reflects on the photographic desire to pin down and crystallise experience, especially as it is represented and recollected by printed images. Throughout this eclectic sequence are the recurring presences of iconography, of souvenirs and mementos, and of the image-makers that surround us day to day. Forming a winding, ruminative road trip, Soth’s photographs are followed by his own notes and reflections in an extended afterword. 'If the pictures in this book are about anything other than their shimmering surfaces,' he writes, 'they are about the process of their own making. They are about going into the ecstatically specific world and creating a connection between the ephemeral (light, time) and the physical (eyeballs, film).' Each book contains five randomised replica vernacular photographs loosely inserted within the pages.
