The Mark Goulthorpe HypoSurface project records, 1990-2014, document the design development, technical implementation, exhibition, and marketing of various iterations of the HypoSurface wall. The wall has a “skin” divided up into pixel-like metallic facets manipulated by a network of actuating pistons in order to create images, texts and patterns in dynamic relief. Sensors allow people near the wall to influence its movement. The records include approximately 62,700 digital files, 3 folders of textual documents, and 44 prototype pieces, and a working HypoSurface wall module.

There are drops of black watercolour and a series of black ink lines in the upper right corner. These media were used for the submitted panel and their presence here also suggests that this drawing was used in preparation of the submitted panel. There are a series of design sketches, along the left side and at the centre of the drawing, which appear to deal with the relationship of the airfield to hangars.

The Office dA project records, 1991-2007, document the firm’s work on the Casa La Roca, Witte Arts Center, and Tongxian Arts Center projects. All three projects involved the use of traditional and locally-sourced materials, such as brick and terracotta block, to create continuous surfaces that appear structural despite remaining an architectural effect in the skin of the building. The archive consists of approximately 8362 digital files (8.5 GB), 1461 drawings and reproductions, four models and approximately 40 model pieces, as well as photographic materials, textual records and ephemera.

The firm identified this project as number 212b “The first action will be to excavate the existing E-W runways and construct in their place a great water channel. The second action will be to plant a large grid of indigenous trees over the entire site in tandem with the installation of irrigation systems. The third main gesture will be to transform the surfaces of the remaining runways into smaller gardens […] Following upon these initial gestures, [Abalos & Herreros] propose a series of vertical structures that will serve to punctuate the great horizontal expanse of the park, providing another scale to the park.” (ARCH270975) Documenting the project are presentation drawings, correspondence, reference materials, notes, project descriptions, presentation documents, publications and a dummy.

This project series documents the sound performance "Tunnel Sonoro." It was created in 1966, when Pettena was experimenting with music and worked with musicians. "Tunnel Sonoro" was one of the results of his collaborations with musicians. This project consists of a sound performance during which a performer, entirely dressed in a metallic bodysuit, crosses a narrow tunnel "in which, by scrapping against the surfaces, their body 'played' the environment, imitating the sound of the wind [...]." [1] The performance was conceived for the (Musica Elettronica Viva), a live acoustic and electronic improvisational group from Rome. The project series contains a project description in Italian and in English, a reproduction of a publication from the Biennale di Firenze describing the project, and drawings of the tunnel and the metallic bodysuit. The international competition called to create a multi-usage space that would include a venue for the symphonic orchestra, a music school, exhibition spaces, and the possibility to host a variety of small cultural events in the Finnish city of Jyväskylä. The proposed site is in the center of the town, across the street from the Jyväskylä city church and its park, and nearby buildings designed by Alvar Aalto. OCEAN North’s concept presents a topological surface as an extension of the surrounding urban scape with two masses that would host the formal functions of the building (concert hall, music school, exhibition halls). The two volumes, or raised blocks, are divided along a diagonal elevated space, which is the extension of the ground’s topological surface filled and dubbed “Liquid Flow Space” by the design team. In their interview with Greg Lynn, Johan Bettum and Kivi Sotamaa mentioned that the idea for Jyväskylä was that it was a cloud. Digital files, in particular, show the process to achieve the projected design. Drawings provide views of streamed particles and of resulting peels. They also include plans, elevations and axonometric views of the structure. Most files are raster or vector images, likely saved from CAD software. A few files are in CAD formats such as Microstation, 3D Studio and form*Z. Digital files also present sine wave analysis and resulting charts for each component of the program. The analysis and charts present the relationships between various components of the building’s program such as the Art Museum, the Concert Halls, the technical space, and the Common facilities. These files are raster images and spreadsheets. Photographs of the site in Jyväskylä and of models built by OCEAN North were digitized and are included with the digital working files. Physical drawings are chiefly floor plans for the building, but also include sections and sketches. Finally, project files include photographic prints of two built models. One of these models, a small model of the conceptual masses of the building structure, is itself in the archive. Photographs show the model in the context of a city scape model. The second model, not part of the archive at CCA, was built at a bigger scale and was an intricate cardboard and wooden stick structure.
