Summary:
A book about modernist architect Mies van der Rohe's only design for the UK, a bronze tower and grand plaza in the heart of London. After decades of struggle, Mies' plans for Mansion House Square were scuppered. In Thatcher's Britain, popular opinion turned against modernism, Prince Charles criticised the work, and the government feared new public spaces. Stopped dead by an Inquiry, and mired in controversy, Mies' masterpiece was all but erased. ''Mies in London'' is the first book on this remarkable project, with 160 pages of unseen material.

Summary:
Well before today's debates on global warming and climate change, photographic images have played an important role in educating the general public about the wonders of nature and the destruction of the global environment. Most now-iconic images have historical precursors. Gisela Parak illuminates how the interrelationship of photography and science gave rise to a genre of photographs of environmental phenomena. She emphasizes the power of these images to support and instruct the scientific pursuit of knowledge, as well as their potency as a means of persuading and shaping public opinion.

Summary:
Power Struggles: Hydro Development and First Nations in Manitoba and Québec examines the evolution of new agreements between First Nations and Inuit and the hydro corporations in Quebec and Manitoba, including the Wuskwatim Dam Project, Paix des Braves, and the Great Whale Project. In the 1970s, both provinces signed so-called "modern treaties" with First Nations for the development of large hydro projects in Aboriginal territories. In recent times, however, the two provinces have diverged in their implementation, and public opinion of these agreements has ranged from celebratory to outrage.

Summary:
The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman (or, just Shandy, for short) was first published in the late 18th century in nine volumes and is still, by far, one of the most contemporary books around. When we say contemporary, we mean in terms of how it looks and reads. The thing is, though, Shandy has long been relegated to the realm of cheap and nasty classic editions and has lost its magic and lustre along the way. When we briefed design studio, A Practice for Everyday Life, we asked them to breathe new life into the book’s design, adding new visual elements, while staying faithful to the original spirit. We also asked Will Self to introduce the book, and that he did, with typically irreverent brilliance.
