Summary:
Presented by ETH Studio Jan De Vylder, Carrousel Confessions Confusion is a series revealing both the authors’ personal interests and the studio’s own pursuits in the form of confessions. Landscape architect Christophe Girot is the featured personage in this volume. Girot writes about his experiences growing up in England and France, and how the juxtaposition of the regions’ landscapes already happened in his mind, long before he had ever heard or studied anything about it. These contradictory aesthetic and cultural values drove him to study landscape architecture someplace else entirely – Berkeley, California, in the 1980s – where he found his own values challenged anew.

Summary:
Like a living skin, the architectural surface provides an impression and expression of human needs, moods and time-related commitments of our designed environment. The surface is what we perceive with all our senses at the same time as spontaneous, synaesthetic, multi-dimensional experience. Working on the basis of his work in his department at the ETH in Zurich, in this publication Gregor Eichinger therefore shifts emotional relationships between people and architecture into the centre. Touch Me's associative switches between interdisciplinary texts and pictorial sequences create a cosmos of our perceptions of the built and designed environment.

Summary:
The high-tech architecture of the 1970s–1990s is typically characterized by the use and exhibition of advanced technologies. In terms of appearance, these buildings often have innovative façades, supporting structures accentuated in color, and expressively displayed technology systems. Unfortunately, however, the rapid obsolescence of technology has often led to the complete replacement of the very systems that defined the architectural form. In 2023, an international conference at ETH Zurich in collaboration with Bauhaus-Universität Weimar explored the question of how best to deal with the structural legacy of technologically innovative architecture. This book summarizes the results and provides an overview of the current state of research.
