Conceived by photographer Naoya Hatakeyama, this tribute to Toyo Ito’s design for the Taichung Opera House in Taiwan offers an eye-opening look at an extraordinary building, its urban context, and daily use. Completed in 2014, the curving structure with its cut-out voids and sectioned facade has proved to be a magnet, not just for audiences but also for people who come to enjoy its rooftop landscape, water elements, and cave-like interior spaces. Besides the many photographs by Hatakeyama, the publication includes an illuminating dialogue between Ito and architectural historian Terunobu Fujimori.

The work documents the river, dams, reservoirs, and people interacting with the river along this route. The intent of this environmental photography project is to bring attention to the increasingly arid conditions of the Colorado River basin, but also prompts discussion and learning about not only the Colorado River watershed, but of water supply in general.

Summary:
The inner courtyard of a Moroccan house promises refuge from the bustle of the outside world, while remaining in touch with nature. Reached by a dark and winding passage, the courtyard is the physical and spiritual centre of the house. Green vegetation, flowering plants (in the garden-like Riads), and fountains fed by narrow channels of flowing water provide a cool, shaded enclosure. Light from above combines to create a serene and sheltering atmosphere, a peaceful paradise. A venerable tradition, still very much alive. Werner Blaser has captured this marvellous architecture in duotone photos.

Summary:
The more than two hundred striking duotone plates in Hilla and Bernd Becher's Industrial Facades continue the famous Düsseldorf photographers' formal investigation of industrial structures, in this case the frontal elevations of factory buildings. Like the Bechers' earlier books on water towers, blast furnaces, and gas tanks, Industrial Facades once again clearly displays their serenely cool, rigorous approach to the structures they photograph as vaariations on an ideal form. The Bechers make no attempt to analyze or explain their subjects. Captions contain only the barest of information: time and place

Summary:
"Design Unbound" presents a new tool set for having agency in the twenty-first century, in what the authors characterize as a white water world—rapidly changing, hyperconnected, and radically contingent. These are the tools of a new kind of practice that is the offspring of complexity science, which gives us a new lens through which to view the world as entangled and emerging, and architecture, which is about designing contexts. In such a practice, design, unbound from its material thingness, is set free to design contexts as complex systems.

Summary:
The Irving Oil Company has long played an important role in the economic and cultural landscape of Eastern Canada. Its holdings, ranging from the country's largest refinery to the western hemisphere's first deep-water terminal, also include the ubiquitous Irving gas station. Thaddeus Howlonia, with his trademark panoramic photography, has documented dozens of these structures over twenty five years, often photographing the same station years apart. His work reveals the complex interaction these boxy modernist structures with their material clutter have with a region known for its traditional, picturesque vernacular.
