Project
AP207.S1.2013.PR03
Description:
The project series documents the film "Vive l'architecture" produced by Pettena in 2013. The film shows a series of religious Renaissance paintings, however, the human subjects were removed leaving only the architectural elements of the paintings. "Usually considered just a support and background to the scene represented, architecture is instead a subject itself, and a fundamental one, of the painting." [1] The project series contains digital versions of the film, a film still, and a project description in Italian. Sub-series
AP207.S2.SS07
Description:
The sub-series documents the exhibition "Ettore Sottsass sr. Architetto", curated by Pettena and presented at Palazzo delle Albere, in Trento, in 1991. The exhibition presented the work of Italian architect Ettore Sottsass. The exhibition, promoted by his son Ettore Sottsass Jr, led to the donation of the Sottsass archive to the MART, in Trento. The sub-series contains research material, including photocopies of articles and books on Ettore Sottsass, photographs of his projects and reproductions of his plans, as well as some notes by Gianni Pettena. This sub-series also contains preliminary project descriptions for the exhibition catalogue with a selection of plans and images of the buildings designed by Sottsass.

Description:
The project series documents "Citta Futura", a series of architectural drawings made by Pettena as part of his graduation thesis at University of Florence in 1968. Pettena's thesis was on the urban requalification of the Santa Croce area in Florence damaged by a flood in 1966. For this project Pettena was "influcenced by the many visionary proposals of 'cities of the future' of the early '60s" [1] The project series contains project descriptions in English and in Italian, and scanned copies of drawings by Pettena for his thesis at the end of the 1960s. AP207.S1.1970.PR01
Description:
This project series documents Pettena's performance "Cancellazione di uno stato". This performance, understood as a visual poem, is described in written instructions. The performance begins with two jets flying over an American state, each one takes off from opposite corners of a state and meet in the center, forming an 'X' over the state. The flights are meant to occur at the specific moment when the performance can be captured by a weather satellite. The images captured by the satellite would then be broadcasted on the weather forecast on national stations. Pettena used a similar idea for a proposal entitled "Imprisonment" for the Graz "Trigon '71" competition. The project series contains the typescript instructions for the performance and a project description in English and in Italian.

Description:
This project series documents The Pig "Carosello Italiano", a film made in the winter of 1967-1968 by Gianni Pettena with archivale footage and shots by Pettena himself. The film is "a comment on the violence of power and consumerism". [1] It consists of a montage of violent scenes, like the Vietnam war, protest demonstrations, the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, intersected with images of "mass society's rituals: traffic, shopping and parades in costume"[2]. The project series contains a video recording on VHS of the film, project descriptions in English and in Italian, and a digital version of the film. Source: [1] [2] Marco Scotini, editor.
