Summary:
Although architecture alone cannot solve the problem of homelessness, the question arises: What and which roles can it play? How can architecture collaborate with other disciplines in developing ways to permanently house those who do not have a home? This volume seeks to explore and understand a reality that involves the expertise of national, regional, and city agencies, nongovernmental organizations, health-care fields, and academic disciplines. Through scholarly essays, interviews, analyses of architectural case studies, and research on the historical and current situation in Los Angeles, Moscow, Mumbai, New York, São Paulo, San Francisco, Shanghai, and Tokyo, this book unfolds different entry points toward understanding homelessness and some of the many related problems. The publication accompanies the exhibition “Who’s Next” by the Architekturmuseum München in Munich, Germany.

Summary:
Eastern modernist architecture of the 60s and 70s is moving away from the specialized focus of international architecture debates and becoming a subject of discussion within the broader context of general interest. The excellent photos in the book convey the flair of an era in which planning was obviously the product of a collective vision, more so than is the case today. The photographic and documentation project compiled by Herta Hurnaus, who lives in Vienna, and the architects Benjamin Konrad and Maik Novotny analyzes the work of prominent Slovakian architects of the time in a photographic documentary and an "oral history. The monumental prestigious buildings are above all the most impressive at first glance, with their features that display parallels to the sculptural designs of popular contemporary offices. The illustrated book contains short interviews in an appendix and address architects and all those who are fascinated the aesthetic of the time.

Summary:
Learning to construct is the objective of the architecture student, who seeks to bring sketches, sophisticated visualizations, material and component choices, and detailed plans and diagrams together in a single grand composition. ''Plans and Images'' offers insight into how architects are trained by examining the teaching and research approach of the Laboratory of Elementary Architecture and Studies of Types EAST (Laboratory EAST), a satellite studio of the EPFL School of Architecture in Lausanne. Going beyond the traditional notion of functionally determined typologies, Laboratory EAST is concerned more broadly with the principles of typology in architecture.

Summary:
Perched on the edge of the Mediterranean, the city of Beirut was once a bustling site of modern architecture. Since the Lebanese Civil War, which broke out in 1975 and claimed over 120,000 lives before its cessation in 1990, many of Beirut’s modernist gems have lain abandoned or ruined. ''Beirut bereft'' profiles 57 of these structures as indicative of the wider fragmentation of Lebanon. Lebanese writer Rasha Salti and photographer Ziad Antar generated a visual, textual and cartographic vocabulary to profile the skeletons of office towers, hotels and apartment blocks that overlook the serene Mediterranean. One such building, the Murr Tower, has become something of an emblem of the destruction and lost hopes of Beirut. Begun in 1974 and incomplete at the beginning of the war, this Corbusier-inspired structure now looms over a city trying to find its way again.

Summary:
After the second world war, New York became a laboratory for the avant-garde, a role it would maintain for decades. Despite the increasing globalisation and decentralization of the centers of artistic creativity, New York continues to embody some of the most significant artistic trends of the 20th century. Published on the occasion of the major exhibition at the Grimaldi Forum, the book is the first to explore this topic, broadly interpreted to encompass the fields of architecture, cinema, photography, music, performance and video. By selectively focusing on the successive arts movements of those decades (including Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, and Postmodernism ), it highlights the dominant role that American artists have, through their work, played in the art world; these American artists turned New York into a unique place to express themselves as fully as possible, and to become known and established on the international arts scene. The artists, photographers, architects, musicians and filmmakers included in the book: Vito Acconci, Laurie Anderson, Carl Andre, Diane Arbus, Richard Artschwager, Richard Avedon, Matthew Barney, Jean-Michel Basquiat, John Cage, John Chamberlain, Gregory Crewdson, Merce Cunningham, John Currin, Bruce Davidson, Willem de Kooning, Jim Dine, Mark di Suvero, Elliot Erwitt, Richard Estes, Eric Fischl, Dan Flavin, Robert Frank, Helen Frankenthaler, Lee Friedlander, Tom Friedman, Robert Gober, Nan Goldin, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Eva Hesse, Hans Hoffman, Jenny Holzer, Peter Hujar, Jasper Johns, Donald Judd, Alex Katz, Ellsworth Kelly, Andrés Kertész, Franz Kline, Joseph Kosuth, Barbara Kruger, Annie Leibovitz, Sol LeWitt, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Longo, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Morris Louis, Robert Mapplethorpe, Brice Marden, Mary Ellen Mark, Agnes Martin, Susan Meiselas, Joel Meyerowitz, Duane Michals, Joan Mitchell, Robert Morris, Robert Motherwell, Bruce Nauman, Barnet Newman, Claes Oldenburg, Nam June Paik, Irving Penn, Gilles Peress, Sylvia Plachy, Jackson Pollock, Richard Prince, Robert Rauschenberg, Ad Reinhardt, Eugene Richards, James Rosenquist, Mark Rothko, Susan Rothenberg, Robert Ryman, David Salle, Lucas Samaras, Tom Sachs, Andres Serrano, Joel Shapiro, Julian Schnabel, Richard Serra, Cindy Sherman, Laurie Simmons, David Smith, Doug and Mike Starn, Frank Stella, Haim Steinbach, Joel Sternfeld, Clyfford Still, Cy Twombly, Kara Walker, Andy Warhol, Lawrence Weiner, Tom Wesselman, Brian Weil, Sue Williams, Garry Winogrand, David Wojnarowicz, Christopher Wool.
