Description:
- The pumps shown in this photograph consisted of a long square wooden tube into which a looped chain is fitted. Attached to the chain are wooden diaphragms which are spaced six inches apart and are guided by rods above the tube. The chain is made to revolve by human foot-power, bringing water to the upper level.
