This book consists of two parts: the first, an illustrated history of plywood (tracing its origins to ancient Egypt, circa 2900 BC); the second, an annotated journal of the making of a piece of bent plywood furniture, from the forest to the showroom. "Bent Ply" contains numerous illustrations of the classics of bent ply design, including furniture from Alvar Aalto, Michael Thonet, and Charles and Ray Eames, and examples of its appropriation by the military: John F. Kennedy's PT109 boat and the DeHavilland "Mosquito" were both fabricated from plywood.

Summary:
This wide-ranging survey showcases and analyzes the work of dozens of Modernist designers, from those who established the International Style in the 1920s and ‘30s through the groundbreaking practitioners of the mid-1940s. Modernism, with its powerful aesthetic and compelling philosophical framework, is the twentieth century’s most defining movement in design and the applied arts. International architects and designers such as Alvar Aalto, Marcel Breuer, Eileen Gray, Le Corbusier, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Frank Lloyd Wright revolutionized the built world and how we live in it. Their work rejected historical precedents, prioritizing function over tradition, and their experimentation with new forms, materials, and techniques transformed our living spaces and lifestyles and fundamentally changed the way we think about design.

Summary:
Over the course of a career that spanned forty-five years, William Wilson Wurster (1895–1973) designed hundreds of residences up and down the West Coast. Like Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, with whom Wurster maintained a close professional exchange, Wurster blends modernism with the vernacular. Wurster described these homes as "frames for living": spaces that could be fully transformed by the occupant to meet their needs and desires, well-designed canvases for homemaking. Authors Caitlin Lempres Brostrom, AIA, and Richard C. Peters, FAIA, draw upon extensive historical research as well as personal relationships with Wurster to tell the story of his career, including both residential and institutional building. The Houses of William Wurster features new and archival footage of thirty-three of the architect's best-known houses and includes a foreword by Donlyn Lyndon.

Summary:
This book, "A model", parallels an exhibition at Mudam Luxembourg – Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean. The museum’s director Bettina Steinbrügge conceived this exhibition as a conversation with the ever evolving contemporary art museum. This publication, with an essay about the roles museums can take, in theory, in practice, and in use, enacts how Steinbrügge engages the artists in the exhibition to sit with this shifting idea. Commissioning major works by Nina Beier & Bob Kil, Rayyane Tabet, Oscar Murillo, or Claire Fontaine and historical works by Alvar Aalto and Tomaso Binga the exhibition uses the format of prologue, body, and epilogue to overlap gestures in the museum space. Likewise, this book engages the designer Julie Peeters, photographer Adrianna Glaviano, and artist Jason Dodge as editor to stage a publication that makes a new exhibition, "A model", between these pages.

Summary:
To survey the work of Mexican architect Javier Senosiain (born 1948) requires a journey through a particular trajectory in the history of architecture, from Frank Lloyd Wright and Bruno Zevi to Alvar Aalto, Eero Saarinen and Jørn Utzon. These pioneers of organic modernism faced the 20th century’s mechanistic, functionalistic and rationalistic proposals with a vision that sought to revive an organic relationship between humans and their environments. Senosiain’s concept of “Organic Architecture” follows in this tradition. Throughout his career, Senosiain’s work has explored the relations between user, site and architecture in spaces that echo natural forms and conditions. “The concept of an organic habitat,” he writes, “is the creation of spaces adapted to man that are also similar to a mother’s bosom or an animal’s lair.” This volume surveys Senosiain’s work since the 1970s and his concept of “Organic Architecture.”

Summary:
This publication contains photographs taken between 1974 and 2009 of buildings designed by 17 well-known architects including: Peter Eisenman, Louis Kahn, Fumihiko Maki, Norman Foster, Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Alvar Aalto, Shigeru Ban and Renzo Piano. From the beginning of her career, Turner has used architecture as subject matter. Ambiguity has always been a hallmark of her work where solids become voids, causing positive and negative to reverse. The photos are small fragments of architecture taken out of context. Through her eyes, the subject is decomposed and recreated, assuming a new meaning. The photographs are quiet, yet dynamic, beautifully framed compositions. Architects have commented that she exposes elements of their work they never imagined existed. Thus, while using architecture as subject matter to invent her own worlds, Turner is also revealing some of its inherent complexities.
