Summary:
This instalment examines the past decade of architectural discourse in the Netherlands. Following the global financial crisis in 2008, the construction industry faced a slowdown; what was then considered “typically” Dutch has since faded, replaced with a new, more modest attitude in the Dutch architecture scene. Across three themes, guest editor Kirsten Hannema introduces nineteen projects that are perceived as combining broader social issues, and which in turn have taken on a new form of cultural momentum, despite going relatively unnoticed in comparison with the “SuperDutch” generation. With work by NL Architects, Superuse Studios, Mecanoo, more.

Summary:
Traditionally a building material of the warmer climate zones, bamboo is becoming increasingly popular amongst architects in the northern hemisphere; bamboo has several advantages – it is very stable, of low weight, and highly elastic, in addition to being readily available as well as renewable. The applications of bamboo in architecture have diversified considerably, so that today, even structures with large spans – such as bridges – are built with this material. Renowned universities such as the ETH Zurich or the SUTD in Singapore have conducted research on engineered bamboo which will further expand its use. The third edition of this manual provides a systematic overview of the applications and processing methods of this renewable material. Recent inspiring bamboo buildings have been added.

The original book was released in the series of publications Source Materials of the Contemporary Arts initiated by Kasper Konig and produced by the Press of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. The publication represents an important document in Dan Graham's artistic examination of the video medium. Graham's installations and performances with video from the years 1970 - 78 are documented with numerous illustrations, photos, and brief descriptions. In addition, the volume contains an essay by the artist in which he examines the various possibilities and forms of representation offered by the video medium, and draws the boundaries between these and representational spaces in television, film, or architecture. The book also offers contributions by Michael Asher and Dara Birnbaum, as well as an annex with a biography and bibliography.
