Description:
The project series documents a series of photographs entitled "Testimonianze D'Architettura" presented at the exhibition "VENEREZIA" in Venice in 1978. The photographs consist of toned and overexposed color prints of the walls of a stone quarry. The photographs are "assembled in succession, as if in a slow pan, to suggest the slow rhythm of observation and lead to the discovery of other worlds [...] arising out of the examination of the strata in a fault." [1] The project series contains eight overexposed photographs of the quarry walls. Architecture In Love (1997)
AP207.S1.1997.PR01
Description:
The project series documents "Architecture in Love" a series of decorative rings designed by Pettena in 1997. "Rather than any decorative intent, this series of rings favors an essentially architectural approach. The object, formed of two halves that are assembled into the completeness of a whole, is in reality a disassembled and reassembled building, investigated in all its possible spatial values." [1] The project series contains sketches and design drawings showing the rings at different angles, photographs and project descriptions in Italian and in English. Description:
The project series documents "Nature vs Architecture", a series of drawings created by Pettena in 2012-2013. It consists of plans of famous buildings assembled together in six different drawings to which Pettena added topographic lines showing geological features. "A very clear symbology shows here how the artist wishes to side up, in the confrontation, with nature, because its force cannot be ignored by architecture, whether consciously or not." [1] The project series contains the six original drawings by Pettena, a montage of the drawings and a project description in Italian. AP207.S1.1968.PR02
Description:
This project series documents Pettena's installation entitled "Carabinieri". The installation consisted of sheets of corrugated cardboard and metal stays assembled to created the three-dimensional letters of the word "Carabinieri". The final product measured about ten meters long by two meters high. It was first built in the courtyard of the Palazzo Comunale in Novara in 1968. "The construction, left out in the open, gradually degraded due to the damp and rain" [1] which made it an installation project, as well as a performance. The installation was recreated for the exhibition "Gianni Pettena. About non conscious architecture" in the Galleria Giovanni Bonelli in Milan, in 2017. This project is the first of a series of three other similar projects. The project series contains photographs of the construction of the word "Carabinieri", photographs of the final installation at the Palazzo Comunale in Novara, and one photograph of the installation at the Gallerie Giovanni Bonelli. It also inlcudes drawings, a plan of the installation, and photographs of a later model of the cardboard word. Source: [1] Marco Scotini, editor.
